About Dayton
Hi! I'm your friendly neighborhood forever GM who just can't stop playing make-believe. I've been a GM for about 6 years now, and in that time I've come to truly love this hobby like nothing else (except for my cat)! I love to spend time in the worlds created by myself and my players, fight death-defying odds and performing feats of fantastical magical prowess. There truly is no other hobby like TTRPG's. Every week I count down the days until I get to sit down with my friends and catch up with what the party is doing. I'm a bit of a creampuff, and a bit of a wackadoo. I trend more towards zany adventures than serious high-fantasy narratives. I like for there to be real stakes and consequences for the players' actions, but I also like to have fun while we're taking over the world. My current home game is a fully homebrew world called Shadows of Whisperwood. It features a party of young children delving into a mysterious forest linked to the Feywild, blending aspects of gothic, body and existential horror, along with tricksy fey antics to create a truly enjoyable ride for our whole table. I'd love the opportunity to GM for more people, TTRPGs are for everyone! Can't wait to get started!

How Dayton runs games
My entire focus as a GM is on creating an enjoyable experience at the table, both for the players and myself. I do so through several means, which I'll list out below: > Player-focused worldbuilding and storytelling. I want each of my players to feel like an integral part of the world we build together. I ask everyone to come to the table with a motivation fit for the adventure we're running, and as GM I drive the story based on what plot threads the players seem interested in. > Variety of game modes. I try to strike a healthy blend of combat, exploration, social interaction and dungeon-crawling. The blend shifts depending on the type of game I'm running, but I always want to avoid things getting stale. > Balance between tension and levity. I love witty jokes and terrible puns, but I also want my players to fear for their lives about once a session. > Homebrew items, features, monsters and mechanics. I can't help myself. When a player does something cool or the story lines up in all the perfect ways, I simply must make a cool thing and put it into your hands. I try to keep my creations balanced with a big dose of cool factor. > Inclusivity. The game is only fun when we can all trust and respect one another, regardless of background or demographics. I run a safe space table, and my players are expected to act in line with this policy.

I deal with rules issues by...
Looking up the exact wording, then making a ruling in the moment. Follow up after session by looking for Sage Advice or a public consensus. If all else fails, I'll hear out any disputes from PC before making a final decision that I believe will lead to the most fun for the table.
I prep by
Pulling inspo from real world sources, laying out the general flow/structure of the session, map-building, dialogue-setting, creating NPC profiles, listing out potential "momentum levers"/character moments, finding the right music, and more.
Rules are...
A framework to enhance the fun and create stakes for the game. I follow rules as written as a baseline, but I'm not opposed to a "rule of cool" or a "yes, THIS TIME" ruling if I feel it will enchance the play experience.
Dayton's ideal table
My ideal table is a group of regular players who approach the table with good humor, an open mind, and a desire to make the game fun for everyone at the table. The vibe at my table is mostly relaxed, though it varies depending on the setting. I like to present a variety of game experiences for my players, and my hope is that they come along for the ride wherever we go.

I love it when a player

My perfect party mix is

My table is not the place for...
Disrespect, bullying, or hateful language. My table is a safe space, and requires absolute trust in each other so that everyone can express themselves freely.
