About Kendra
Hello! I'm Kendra and I've been playing Dnd for just over four years now. Started with minis and grid paper maps and now live on DndBeyond. I was at four different tables until recently. Each table had a different vibe. From the old school pen and paper table that tracked encumbrance, coin spent, and the wording for every mechanic of the game. To the completely remote game that would die of boredom if they had to count arrows and live by the rule of cool. The moment I started playing I was hooked and bee lined into DMing. I am most familiar with DndBeyond and Discord. I can run modules and I really enjoy homebrew. I have experience with several levels of players but mostly beginners and intermediates. LGBTQIA+ friendly, and have experience with all female parties.

I became a GM because
My brother was DMing because no one else even knew how to play yet. As soon as I even hinted an interest in DMing he handed over the reins. I love coming up with the story bones and seeing what the characters build onto it!
My favorite shows/movies are
Supernatural, Teen wolf, Grimm, and currently watching Stranger Things for the first time
People are always surprised when I tell them
I ride and drive horses. I have experience as a wagon and sleigh driver.
How Kendra runs games
I am not a tactical expert by any means but I try to have dynamic battles that are very much player driven. DM vs. Player just doesn't make sense to me. I like having roleplay, especially when it's player driven. It gives me insight into the players and their characters. I also take notes to weave as much of their backstory in as I can.. I have experience with 'Theater of the mind' and I like to add background and character images to help things along. I have not been able to balance tracking the music yet unfortunately.

I prep by
outlining based on player discussions on what they are planning in game.
Rules are...
helpful, flexible, and can change entirely upon group approval
When it comes to voices
I try and I don't try. For example, I had intended a group of character have a southern accent to dip my toe into accents because I have a southern accent...don't know why one npc came out with a jersey accent...So I will support your voices and withhold judgement if they randomly disappear
Kendra's ideal table
Players that understand this is supposed to be fun. Collaborative story telling means none of us know exactly where this is going. I'm probably not what a rules lawyer, or someone wanting a high stakes game would enjoy. I don't do encumbrance unless the players want to, I have mechanics in place so I don't ever kill a character unless the player wants them dead.

I love it when a player
gets sucked into the story, roleplays, and talks about it for days after.
I think metagaming...
A thin rope to balance on. If you have years of playing under your belt you're going to eventually recognize monsters and know their strengths and weaknesses. Also watching scenes your character isn't in can be tricky. I don't usually mind until its being done maliciously.
I think min/maxing...
is players using their characters to the best of their abilities. It also means they pay attention to their characters abilities and aren't accidently nerfing themselves by using things they aren't proficient in.
