About Mathew Dyck

Hi! My name is Mathew, and I have been DMing for 5 years now. I started with DnD 5e and have branched out to a few other TTRPGs such as; Stars Without Number and Call of Cthulhu. Writing and interactive storytelling are my passions. I am a very patient person and DM, and ask others are the same with me as I do have a stammer. As I warm up to my group and get into character, it becomes less noticeable. I look forward to being your guide, wherever the dice takes us.

I became a GM because

Because everyone else wanted to be players. I kind of fell into being a forever GM, not that I mind, I love GMing and creating worlds.

My favorite shows/movies are

- Netflix's Daredevil (Born Again is good too, but season 2 of the Netflix series was Peak for me) - Breaking Bad - Expanse - Peaky Blinders

How Mathew Dyck runs games

I love creating expansive worlds that players can get immersed in. I'm a huge proponent of the power of joint storytelling and my games reflect that. They have a lot of opportunity for Roleplay, and when combat does break out, it is dynamic and engaging. I gravitate towards more nuanced themes where the answer isn't always black and white.

When it comes to voices

I do the best I can. I would spend hours going on walks while practicing different voices. People probably thought I was crazy.

Mathew Dyck's ideal table

I prioritize fun over all. I'm very patient with new people and provide a table that's safe, encouraging, and full of laughter. That been said, I craft stories that keep players engaged and encourage my players to RP as much as they feel comfortable with. I tend to lean into the Rule of Cool, I love Flawed characters and try to make failing fun.

I think min/maxing...

Is fine. Personally, I think it's more fun to have flawed characters and I try to make failing fun. That being said, if someone wants to Min/Max, that's fine too. I will just try to adjust my encounters to balance it out.
