About Salvi

My name is Ronald Cruz Castro, I am Latino and I lived in SoCal California almost my whole life and I have always had some experience with tabletop games from playing from videos games that inspire from tabletop and made me curious about what truly tabletop games has to offer as videos games, books and movies can be limiting and restricted compared to playing tabletop which lead me down the road to playing Dungeon and Dragons 5e in my high school with couple of friends to GMing for Dungeon and Dragons, Star wars FFG, Cyberpunk Red and Avatar Legends. As this led to over 5 years of gaming, which had become such a vital part of my daily life, Tabletop has changed my life. It's brought my friends and me closer, allowing us to escape reality, immerse ourselves in a story, and have fun.

I got started GMing...

I got started GMing because I wanted all my friends who had never played an RPG to play DND. Since the DM I used to know unfortunately retired, I had to become the DM, which was terrifying, and I started GMing for one friend, then two, and then six. I started running games for them.

How Salvi runs games

I would say my GMing style is high-stakes combat and roleplaying, as I really like combat with a mix of roleplaying, as I craft an encounter with the ability to have my party negotiate their way out of a combat with some checks or get the drop on the enemy for their player agency. As my GMing style is very flexible when it comes to players making decisions, I lean heavily on the role of cool to help my players figure out solutions and fun ways to succeed. I like using rules as intended to build a foundation that they are in a world where they can be fully immersed, as I believe restriction creates creativity. This all helps make the most memorable and exciting sessions, as well as seeing my players try different ways to fight, roleplay, and solve problems.

I deal with rules issues by...

The way I deal with rule issues is by focusing on whether the rule prevents people from having fun. I want people to have fun and challenge them, but if it's not making people have fun, it's not worth keeping.

When it comes to voices

When it comes to voices, all my female characters have manly voices, and I have two voices: my voice and a lower version of it.

Salvi's ideal table

My ideal table would be a mix of combat-heavy and roleplay players, as I love it when players get super into roleplay and mix it with combat, which brings a new level of tension, a different vibe, and another kind of immersion to storytelling. For example, I once had a player who loved to get into combat as well as a role player that only felt alive during battle, which brought out a new level of immersion on how people act in and out of combat, as well as pure roleplaying moments, and brought a different level of how the character is in various situations.
