About David

Well let’s just get right to it. I’m an almost 40 year veteran of countless rpg systems and been a GM for a little over 10 years. I try to be as adaptable as possible in the games I run and try to involve every member in the party as equally as possible while keeping within a specific players comfort level, I’ll adapt the level of role play to how committed and immersive the party wants to be. I’ve been to over 40 countries and really have fun emulating the various accents I’ve encountered in my travels, even giving npc’s their own dedicated facial expressions and hand gestures. I try to run combat in a dynamic and cinematic style, often playing Japanese war drum music in the background to help set the tone.

How David runs games

I like to run my games in a very theatrical manner, crafting detailed—and sometimes deeply emotional—backstories for the NPCs that matter most. I strongly believe gaming should be a team experience, and I encourage players to describe a crucial killing blow they strike or one that narrowly misses them. From time to time, I also describe scenes using cinematic blocking and camera angles, occasionally including a video game–style cutscene before a major event takes place. The comfort of my players is very important to me. I want them to know they are in an environment where they can feel free to cut loose from the social stresses of their daily lives and use accents or different voices to fully bring their characters to life. For 35 years, I’ve loved playing dozens of role-playing games—from TMNT to Rifts and GURPS—and though I was hesitant at first, I will always be grateful to those early groups who gave me the confidence to start, and continue, GMing so many fun-filled nights year after year.

I deal with rules issues by...

Just going with what makes sense in order to not break the flow of the game.

Rules are...

Made to be adaptable, bent, sometimes ignored and overall a chicken wire type framework to guide you.

When it comes to voices

I use them often and encourage them but they aren't mandatory.

David's ideal table

My table is welcoming, collaborative, and focused on shared storytelling. I aim to create a space where everyone feels comfortable contributing, whether that’s through roleplay, creative problem-solving, or tactical play. The general vibe is friendly and respectful, with a good balance of immersive moments and lighthearted fun—serious when the story calls for it, but never so rigid that we forget we’re here to enjoy ourselves. Players who fit well at my table are those who enjoy engaging with the story, respect fellow players’ spotlight moments, and communicate openly. You don’t need to be an expert—new and experienced players alike are welcome—as long as you’re willing to learn, participate, and work as part of a group. I value cooperation over competition and encourage characters with motivations that tie into the world and party. Overall, my table emphasizes creativity, inclusivity, and mutual respect. If you’re looking for a game where your choices matter, your character has room to grow, and everyone works together to tell a memorable story, you’ll likely feel right at home.

I love it when a player

Thinks outside the box to accomplish a task. I may be an impartial party but i'm always rooting for the players. I had a GM in the past who would take any opportunity to kill the party (One time he even party wiped us with an owlbear that only had 1 hit point left) which got old quickly.

I think metagaming...

Only if you can reasonably explain to me how this character would have this information.

My table is not the place for...

Anyone looking to drag the world around them down.
