About Focal
Hi, my name is Ian, I have been a DM for my friends for the last 11 years, and I have been building immersive worlds for people to play in. I definitely lean more into making RP focused games with sprinkles of combat where survival is important, and more often than not I award investigating and asking questions over fighting and killing everything on site. I like long term campaigns more than one shots but have been trying to work more with keeping things short. I usually try to keep my sessions within a 3 hour window with two 15 minute breaks for people to use the bathroom, grab drinks or snacks, with the knowledge that we might end early or late depending on the situation. I don't like ending in the middle of combat, so if we are nearing the end of the session and I feel that a combat encounter is going to take longer than the time we have left, I would rather start the next session with the encounter.

I became a GM because
I love creating and telling stories with others. Over ten years ago now, I had my first experience with interactive storytelling, no dice, just myself, and three of my friends. From then I just wanted to create a good story for my friends to live in!
People are always surprised when I tell them
Their NPC party member has been a changeling who was only trying to escape from the grasp of the King's army.

How Focal runs games
Hello all, I love having roleplay focused campaigns, with combat here and there leading into epic battles against mythical creatures. I always want to craft extensive lore waiting to be discovered.

Christopher Nolan, I love his directing style.
Rules are...
Solid, but may sometimes be bent.
When it comes to voices
I do my best to make voices differ per npc, but I know my limits.
Focal's ideal table
Ideally, my table will be filled with all types of players, with people who are excited to open a chest and randomly find out it's a mimic. I hope to tell a great story and make sure everyone is having fun!
