About Emerald Phoenix

Hi! I’m Robert. I’ve been DMing DnD for around 16 years since around the release of 4th edition. I’m the kind of DM that prioritizes player experience over everything else. I’ve run most of the 5e modules but specialize in homebrew campaigns and one shots tailored to my players. If you have a custom setting you want to bring to life, then I am the DM for you.

I got started GMing...

In 2008, when I was in High School. Since then I have ran hundreds of games across 4th and 5th edition D&D.

My favorite system of all Time is

D&D 5e (2014). No system is perfect but 5e gets so many thing right.

The three words my players would use to describe me are...

Fun, Patient, knowledgeable

How Emerald Phoenix runs games

I prioritize my players experience over everything else. DnD should be challenging but fun is always the top priority. I specialize in homebrew campaigns and one shots that I tailor around my players. If someone’s player has a detailed backstory, I will pull elements from it to create dynamic story telling moments that make my players feel seen and appreciated.

Emerald Phoenix's ideal table

My table revolves around my players and their experience. In Campaigns, I love to have players who have thought through their character's backstories. I take those backstories and turn them into immersive and rewarding moments in game. In one-shots, I build encounters around the classes my players pick, making those encounters both challenging and thematic.

I love it when a player

Gets a rewarding crit moment. Nothing like seeing someone light up when they unleash their characters full power.

I think it's a red flag when players...

Gets angry during a game. D&D is one of my life passions but at the end of the day, it is just a game. It exists for the purpose of fun and connection. Anger and hostility have no place at my table.

I think min/maxing...

Is totally fine so long as it was discussed in advance. My main concern with it is when it takes away from the fun of the other players at the table.
