About Dakota

I have been playing and GMing for almost two years and have enjoyed the experience immensely. In that short time, I've discovered a passion for being a Game Master. I've played DND 5e, both 2014 and 2024. I've played Daggerheart and Call of Cthulu as well. In addition, I've taken classes on GMing through Altrole.

I got started GMing...

Because I took over for the previous GM and became the forever GM. I've come to embrace the role.

The three words my players would use to describe me are...

Performer. Storyteller. Schemer.

When I'm not running games I'm...

Watching games, reading rulebooks, or collecting dice (I'm a goblin).

How Dakota runs games

I prefer to GM roleplay-heavy games and as such prefer that players make decisions that are in character. For example, if your character is a devout cleric, it's unlikely that they would engage in theft/arson. Unless you can justify it in character. I primarily use rules as written, however I am willing to make exceptions if a player has thought of a truly original and out-of-the-box solution/action in a scenario. I also use Milestone leveling to discourage murder hobo mentality.

My games focus on...

Character Development, Narrative Development, and Entertaining Mechanics. When I say that my games are combat lite, that means that there is combat but that it is not the main focus. Theatre of the Mind also means that most gameplay is imagined, but aspects may have a map component, i.e. combat

Rules are...

As written, unless you can come up with an out-of-the-box solution or action. I reserve the right to Rule of Cool.

When it comes to voices

I do them, but I don't require my players to. It's more fun in my opinion.

Dakota's ideal table

My table is one that is open to everyone. Players that enjoy roleplaying and character-driven narratives are welcome. Beginners and Veteran Players welcome. Follow basic etiquette and you'll do great.

I love it when a player

Asks me if their character believes something rather than just saying "Insight Check".

I think metagaming...

Has a time and place, I don't forbid table talk for strategizing. That said, if you (the player) know what an enemy is vulnerable to or how to solve a specific puzzle, you still need to justify how your character knows that.

My table is not the place for...

Infinite Money Glitches or MinMaxxing. Also, nonstop combat every 15-20 mins. A lot of my games have entire sessions without a single fight.
