About Christopher Brown

Hi! I’m Krissie (or Kris). I’m a trans GM with a pretty clear male voice for better or worse, but don’t stress about pronouns around me — I just want to have fun telling stories together. I’ve been running games for several years, starting in D&D 3.5, then Pathfinder, and now mostly 5e. I love experimenting with homebrew content: from One Piece 5e, to Kingdom Hearts 5e, to worlds of my own design. My biggest homebrew setting is Vltar, where I’ve run multiple campaigns lasting 10+ sessions. As a GM, I focus on: Roleplay & Storytelling: Character moments and world-building are my favorite part. Fun Combat: Tactical but quick, never a slog. Flexibility: Open to different systems, comfortable with homebrew, and easygoing about tools (Owlbear, tabletop simulator, or just dice and discord even). I’ve played with all kinds of groups and setups, and I pride myself on being reliable, creative, and welcoming. If you join my table, expect a collaborative, story-driven adventure where everyone has a chance to shine.

I got started GMing...

I got started GM'ing first by calling it DM'ing. Anyway I started playing a 3.5e D&D system and kept telling my friends about it till they finally said they wanted to play. Having watched a lot of 5e podcasts I figure it would be easier to run and suddenly became a GM.

How Christopher Brown runs games

My GMing style is built around improv, roleplay, and keeping combat fun. I don’t want players to feel punished by a streak of low rolls — maybe a “miss” still dents armor, throws off an enemy’s balance, or sets up the next move. Sometimes misses happen but usually I prefer to try and keep encounters under five rounds unless for some big gimmick boss battle. I love giving every character a chance to shine. NPCs won’t just talk to one person — they’ll poke at everyone, sparking roleplay across the whole table. At the same time, I know when to step back and let the party banter or build their own bonds. I also enjoy working with players on their backstories and weaving their ideas into the campaign. My goal is for each character to have meaningful moments that matter to the story. Finally, I put effort into living worlds: shopkeepers, rivals, and allies all have personalities that can shift over time. Maybe the grumpy innkeeper softens after your party helps their family, or a cheerful merchant grows bitter after betrayal. NPCs grow and change with the story, making the world feel real and reactive. At my table, you can expect a collaborative, story-rich experience with engaging roleplay, dynamic NPCs, and combat that feels exciting instead of bogged down.

I prep by

I keep large note files, probably too much sometimes. I use word documents and set up different headings to look at sections quickly. I have session summaries, player information, location info, then also character information based on location.

Christopher Brown's ideal table

I ask players do their best to try and focus on the game and keep background noise to a minimum. If something does pop up let me and the other players know as soon as possible. Besides that I very much enjoy focusing on the role play aspect of tabletop. I like to let characters flesh themselves out and use or train skills in role play. Let the wizard actually have a chance to use their roleplay spells instead of just casting fireball 24/7. When combat does show up I like it to be snappy and like to usually ask how players are attacking enemies. Are they aiming for the head, arm, legs, chest, etc. I want combat to feel like you have more options than just what's the AC. Over all I do like to joke around now again, but I enjoy making serious moments as well. If you want to create characters and tell a story with others, I hope I can make you all feel like you're doing just that.
