About Nathan Pops

I'm 54 and have been playing and running TTRPG's since 1987. At first I was inexperienced (obvs) but have learnt to turn into someone who can competantly run a game. I have all of the skills required to be a fair and just and unbiased GM.

How Nathan Pops runs games

Unbiased, fair but firm, realistic and with verisimilitude (internal logic and consistency)....For instance not every fight is equal...sometimes it's best to run - just like in real life) other times combat can be quite easy - though most encounters in general will be moderately challenging. and thats the combat....there is also a focus on actual roleplay and i use high quality maps from patreon as well as maps from modules etc....my games are moderately combat heavy though not excessive...i also like throwing in the occasional puzzle....And in situations which seem like theres no way out (from a combat, or puzzle etc etc) i guarantee i give the players multiple ways out of every single situation....Like in call of cthulhu, sometimes it's simply best to make a run for it!! :D

I deal with rules issues by...

logic, if I can....We have a real world to compare (thinking about the middle ages really - in the case of D&D and Pathfinder) and we have physics and probability and other laws by which reality is governed and we can apply that to the game.

I once ran a session...

The party came across a brown ooze which emanated cold and they took cold damage from being even near it...So they decided the best course of action was to kill it with fire....Well that didn't work out very well - It grew even bigger!, in fact it sucked up the fire and nearly killed the party!

My games focus on...

Having a good time and enjoying myself and helping others to enjoy themselves

Nathan Pops's ideal table

Players that know how to have a good time and easy to have a laugh with....Play hard, but laugh harder....Take the game seriously but know when to laugh...

I love it when a player

Remenisces about a memory where something funny happened in a game I ran...It makes me feel like i've done a good job and that they had a good game :D

I think metagaming...

Its not really in the spirit of adventure...Not a big fan of it...Min/Maxing is all very well but i'm not keen

My perfect party mix is

2 tanks (fighters, paladins, rangers, monks) 1 arcane user 1 rogue type character 1 Healer (druid/cleric)
