About Josh Cisney

Hi! I’m Josh, just your friendly virtual Game Master with over 12 years of experience running all kinds of tabletop RPGs across systems like Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder, Starfinder, Call of Cthulhu, and now Daggerheart. I run a gaming based business in my home town and also play in two home based games. Needless to say I live and breathe RPG's and Boardgames.

When I'm not running games I'm...

Usually involved in my local board game - tabletop communities. We run charity events and random game nights. I think giving back to my community is one of the most rewarding things I can do. If not that then you will generally find me playing video games, reading books, or many other hobbies!

How Josh Cisney runs games

I focus on group story telling and character driven moments and like to keep my sessions varied by offering and mix of combat, roleplay, puzzles, and exploration. My moto is for rules to guide play never force it and players should have fun regardless of their skill set.

I deal with rules issues by...

having a friendly conversation. Rules at my tables are guides to keep everyone on the same page and the game moving quickly. The whole table has a say if anything get murky. I do prefer to keep things easily understandable and fun wile avoiding getting lost in the details of rules written/intended

Josh Cisney's ideal table

My ideal table is a table that get's along and are all there to accomplish the same goal. I'm happy running many types of tables from goofy, to serious, or from combat junkies to role-players. The key is having everyone at the table on the same page. For this reason I focus specific time in session 0 on the table vibe and expectations.

I love it when a player

Embraces their character and doesn't just see them as numbers on a page. This doesn't have to mean voices (those are welcome at my table though) but instead is all about intent. Bonus points if you are able to make another player/character shine when it is their turn to be under the spotlight.
