About Zack

Hello! I'm Zack, an energetic and thoughtful DM who loves to build world's, tell stories, and hear the stories you have to tell. I've been DMing since I was 13 for play groups in between 4-12 people and have now been the forever DM for about 8 years. I plan to have many campaigns listed and active since I will be doing this quite frequently, but if there is a custom setting you'd like to see brought to life, simply reach out to me on one of my linked socials in order to work something out. I'm always more than happy to create a campaign just for my players. Some fandoms I'm interested in are: SCP, MTG, D&D (obviously), ATLA, Star Wars, Harry Potter, (not really a fandom but) Greek, Roman, Norse, and Egyptian Mythology, PJO, Marvel, DC, Wings of Fire, and a LARGE variety of anime! Despite this I'm more than willing to learn a fandom for a campaign and find it extremely fun to do so. I'm also Bilingual and know both Spanish and English fluently!

I got started GMing...

When I heard about D&D as a teenager, from then on I got a group of friends together who knew about as much about D&D as I did and decided I would DM for them. From there I've DM'd many campaigns with a variety of groups and even gotten to play in a few!

People are always surprised when I tell them

That I know multiple Martial Arts and have been practicing them since I was 7!

When I'm not running games I'm...

Usually playing Magic: The Gathering, going to my classes in Uni, or travelling for my debate team!

How Zack runs games

As a GM I personally value a good story over anything else, whenever I craft sessions I always keep in mind the narrative drive behind almost everything (down to the puzzles!). I want my players to feel fully immersed in their world, like they're the main character at all time and still part of a larger universe around them. I incorporate a healthy mix of combat, puzzles, and npc/world interaction to ensure that everyone gets a bit of what they want. However I always think the player comes first, I'm merely a guide after all and if I wanted to go on a rant about my world I would've just written a book. Due to this I always prefer to consult my players on their preferences to make sure that I can give them the experience they want, despite what my own preferences might be.

I once ran a session...

Outside with pouring rain and thunder around us, it was a battle on a stormy sea atop two crashed ships so I thought the water slowly approaching us while we were in my patio added so much to the ambiance, not to mention the thunder and sound of the rain!

My games focus on...

Narratives, stories of people, of hardship, adventure, and fun. If something happens in my games it often sets up something grander in a future session, I very rarely include filler, unless my players request it

Rules are...

More of a suggestion than a hard line, at least in D&D5e, to me if my players decide they want to ignore, change, or stick strictly to a rule, I will always listen to them!

Zack's ideal table

My Ideal table would be filled with players interested in the game, I love when my players pitch to me their ideas and give me the challenge of incorporating that into my world. I want everyone to participate and collaborate effectively, so my ideal table is one where all the players are having their individual fun in a way that builds together to create a truly wonderful experience.

I love it when a player

Adds or notices little details about characters or the world! I love adding small things for players to notice and later recognize, it's satisfying to see their eyes light up when they understand something I hid. Also when they give me small details to work with and incorporate into the story!

I think it's a red flag when players...

Begin to have personal issues with one another and single out characters due to out-of-game issues. D&D is a space for everyone to experience being someone else, I do not want the real-world to interfere at my table

I think min/maxing...

Is totally fine and even fun within the table setting if done right! It's my job as the DM to balance encounters and my players shouldn't suffer from me complaining about them making an overpowered character. I will always accommodate to the needs of my players and if they wish to min/max, go ahead!
