About Nathan Hemelgarn
Hello I'm Nathan. I'm a 30yr old DM who has been GMing Dungeons and dragons 5e on a nearly weekly basis for almost a decade now. I have a passion for TTRPGs and using them to create stories with my Players. Most of my experience has been with D&D 5e but I have been branching out as of the past year to other systems like Lancer for example. I use Discord and FoundryVTT to host my games. And my Focus as a DM is to create a story everyone will love. whether that's through epic combats, Intensive RP, or a completely off the rails improvised chaotic goblin adventure.

I got started GMing...
Because getting into ttrpgs was my idea in my friend group and I was the only one with the patience to learn the rules.
My favorite shows/movies are
As of right now K-pop Demon Hunters
When I'm not running games I'm...
Getting inspiration from Books, RPGs, and shows.
How Nathan Hemelgarn runs games
My GMing style is mostly Free form. I will have the base idea of what the story will be about. who the villain may be. what McGuffins might be involved. And I just build the story around the players and their characters as the campaign goes. Changing things as needed.
Nathan Hemelgarn's ideal table
My tables are usually relaxed in nature. The games I run do have their serious moments, but for the most part I run games that I feel my players will enjoy. I can be loose with the rules in some scenes and be strict with them the next. I try to make a balance both RP and Combat in my games.

I love it when a player
give me materials to torture... I mean build a characters story with. If I can bounce back and forth with when it comes to making a convincing arc for their characters and Items that fit their character.
I think metagaming...
Is fine when discussing amongst players not characters. I will ask players to try and give me convincing explanations for why their character knows this meta info and rolls may be made.
I think min/maxing...
Okay as long as you are making it in a way that it still fits the story the table is telling.
