About Tan
Hello! My name is Tanner and I use they/them pronouns. I’ll be your Game Master ‘round these parts. I am an alphabet mafia member 🌈 and have a permanent AuDHD subscription. I do welcome folks from any background to play TTRPGs with me! I love to bake sourdough and play with my cats when I am not rewatching Bob's Burgers. My TTRPG experience comes from mostly being a player. I started playing D&D 5e in 2018. Since then, I’ve had the chance to play long-term campaigns, one shots, and a few some-shots. All of which were very different, homebrew worlds, and engaged with different themes. I look forward to running games and getting better as a game master ❤️ Though my experience with running games is limited, I am a very creative person and excel at improve and character development. I am confident in my ability to delivery an immersive experience for players at the table. Most importantly, I am committed to failing fast and learning from my mistakes. I welcome feedback from others that I may incorporate and grow from. Not every voice or scene may land, but I want every table to know they can let me know. I hope to focus on Daggerheart in the future, but am open to a lot of systems. I want to engage with rich stories and fun conflict. Though the role-playing aspect of the game is the most exciting to me, I am not afraid to make some attack rolls, buwahaha

I became a GM because
My regular Game Master wanted a break between campaigns. I ran a one shot with them, another with some other friends, and then again on a random post (so a few times) to see how I felt about it. Surprise, I liked it! I can't wait to run more games and explore fun stories with new tables.
My favorite shows/movies are
- Everything Everywhere All At Once - Steven Universe - Bob's Burgers - Frieren: Beyond Journey's End - Ghost in the Shell - Doctor Who - What We Do In The Shadows
When I'm not running games I'm...
really really into cooking. As a foodie vegetarian, gotta find yummy recipes that excite (and sometimes challenge) me! I love to play TTRPGs too and video games. If I'm not doing any of that, you may find me hiking or reading with lofi in the background.
How Tan runs games
I prioritize player agency and see my role as a host to the world rather than its main character. At our table, you'll experience character-driven roleplay at the heart of the game. Every table will experience me experimenting with voices and character development to create world for us to play in! I hope that you'll feel your characters are a part of the world we share and the journeys we go on are fit for true heroes! I love using structures like the 5-room dungeon to keep sessions punchy and engaging—but I’m never afraid to break the mold if the story calls for it. I fully support the Rule of Cool because it is all about the story and players having fun at the end of the day ❤️ Can't wait to see you there!

I prep by
Always reflecting on the boundaries established in Session 0 and the interests each player expresses at the table as the story progresses. I want to lean on what players are enjoying the most and find ways to balance those interests (or fully leaning in).
My favorite trope is...
"Oldest Trick in the Book" is one of my favorites to come by because I enjoy a cliché story sometimes. Campy and cliché probably is the reason why I rewatch so much 90s and early 2000s content, haha. I do enjoy dabbling with the "Deal with the Devil" trope since a simple favor can be anything.
My games focus on...
The story at hand and interests players have. I enjoy incorporating the PC's backstory into the world where possible and making decisions matter. These ripple effects in the world are what make the play experience so unique and enjoyable. They also allow for ways to progress the campaign organically
Tan's ideal table
Every player is unique, so I have no expectations on how a person would play the game or motivations to drive them. I hope everyone that ends up at my table is looking forward to sharing a heroic journey with others. Some folks really enjoy puzzles, some like roleplay a lot, and many folks relish in conflict and combat. I am for all of these things so long as we find a balance together (while still achieving the campaign's goals). Though make no mistake, we will be goof'n around when the time is right, haha.

I am for a vibe that's...
Informal and fun. At the end of the day, we are playing a game together. There will be many opportunities for us to be fools but there will come a time when we must "lock in" as they say, Buwahahahahaha. Whatever that means, I'm sure we'll figure it out together.
I love it when a player
(as long as it doesn't tpk) is able to make a "character over party" choice in a way that builds on the story. I don't want the party going at each other, but I want players to feel welcome to make their character "alive" and meaningful.
I think it's a red flag when players...
Take agency away from other players. It is okay to suggest or share ideas, but how someone players their character is ultimately up to them.
