About blake lawhorn

Hey, I am Blake, I love Spending time with family, friends, gaming and going on walks with my Border Collie Pippin (Yes from the Lord of the Rings). I began playing dungeons and dragons 3.5 edition when I was 10 years old, and have been playing on again/off again ever since with me becoming a dedicated weekly player in 2012. I would say that I have spend a long time playing pathfinder, dungeons and dragons 3.5, Savage World Adventure edition, dungeons and dragons 5/ and 5.5. I began DMing in 2021 with Savage worlds and then DND 5th edition. I am beginning to have practice DM’ing Pathfinder 2e and Shadowdark. In addition, this past year, I began crafting my own TTRPG materials for my Live games. I have about 3 ongoing games, and I just can’t get enough. Outside of dungeons and dragons I love to find ways to connect and learn for my games. I recently went to Amsterdam and all I wanted to do use the various aspects of the past to enhance my games.

How blake lawhorn runs games

My GM style is flexible and player focused. I believe that by empowering my players with their unique characters, I can help facilitate a wonderful experience that they will remember for years to come! I empower players by taking time during a session 0 to discuss the goals of the campaign and expectations to help facilitate a character that will thrive in the game. I also believe that players choices matter, there is nothing worse then the players finding out that no matter what they do, they will always have to fight/ flee, or save the princess despite their choices that go against that. If the players make choices, the world around them changes. Another belief that allows me to empower my players is my skill at improvising, and thinking through how others and the world will react. Lastly, to empower my players, I believe it’s important to be just as excited for the players to push through obstacles as they are. I am there for the players, and never to “Win DND”. As a DM, I love a mix of role play, combat, and exploration. I feel that you can expect a 33/33/33 mix with some times being more focused one aspect over another. I am a lover of combat in my games, but combat often is unrewarding if there isn’t a reason to be fighting, so I try my best to always have encounters that have meaning and add to the players story.

I prep by

Reviewing the player characters goals, my world, and the people in it to help create a living environment

My favorite trope is...

Under-dog that overcomes adversity and rises to the challenge

Rules are...

A Guide that is meant to enhance the fun, not get in the way. If they Do, Throw em out!

blake lawhorn's ideal table

My ideal table is to have creative, and engaged players that want to learn more and find creative solutions to problems that help build stories. It’s such a joy when other players are coming together for a common goal, and being able to make my game, theirs!

I love it when a player

Thinks of a crazy but plausible solution!

I think it's a red flag when players...

Don't let others have the spotlight. We all deserve those story moments

I think min/maxing...

is fine. If you have spent time learning the rules and finding ways around those rules, then that tells me you are invested, and I want a game you enjoy.
