About Chris Mckenzie
I've been running tabletop RPGs for over a decade, and creating unforgettable adventures has become one of my greatest passions. During that time, I've built and continuously expanded my own original fantasy setting, a living world that has been explored by more than 50 players across countless campaigns and one-shots. Every game leaves its mark, helping shape the world's history and making each story feel truly meaningful. My style is rooted in epic fantasy, memorable characters, and collaborative storytelling. I believe the best campaigns aren't about following a predetermined plot—they're about the choices your characters make and the legends they create. Whether you're uncovering ancient mysteries, battling impossible odds, navigating political intrigue, or sharing quiet moments around the campfire, your decisions drive the narrative. I strive to create immersive worlds filled with rich lore, dynamic NPCs, challenging encounters, and meaningful consequences, while ensuring every player has opportunities to shine. Whether you're a seasoned veteran or brand new to tabletop RPGs, my goal is to provide a welcoming table where everyone can become invested in the adventure and leave with stories they'll be talking about long after the session ends. If you're looking for a campaign where your character matters, your choices have lasting impact, and every session feels like the next chapter in an epic fantasy novel, I'd love to welcome you to my table.

I ran my first game...
over ten years ago. It was set in the world of alterra and I've been running campaigns and stories in that setting ever since with over 300 players leaving their mark on the setting.
My favorite books are
quite a lot of scifi and fantasy; hitchhiker's, discword, wheel of time, the bobiverse series, the list goes on...
When I'm not running games I'm...
building my own creative studio; Alterra Entertainment. We design games of all kind; from ttrpg and rpgs, to trading card games and video games. You can find out patreon at http://patreon.com/WorldofAlterra
How Chris Mckenzie runs games
My games are all about collaborative storytelling. I build rich, living worlds, but the story is always about the player characters—their goals, their relationships, and the choices they make. I love seeing players surprise me, and I happily adapt the world around their decisions rather than forcing them down a predetermined path. You can expect a healthy balance of immersive roleplay, cinematic combat, exploration, mystery, and meaningful character development. Combat encounters are challenging and tactical, but they're never just random fights—they're designed to advance the story, reveal something about the world, or put difficult choices in front of the party. I put a lot of effort into memorable NPCs, detailed lore, atmospheric descriptions, custom maps, and homebrew content that makes each campaign feel unique. Whether you're negotiating with a dragon, uncovering ancient ruins, or standing against impossible odds, I want every session to feel like another chapter in an epic fantasy novel. Above all, I aim to create a welcoming, collaborative table where every player has the chance to shine and every character can become a legend.

I once ran a session...
in which a four-player group of level 5s took on a CR 19 Balor, after completing a tournament arc, and won.
Rules are...
for a foundation, they shouldn't stop you flying for the sun.
When it comes to voices
they are my weakest skill, I wouldn't expect an npc met in one session to have the exact same voice the next session. It'll hopefully be close.
Chris Mckenzie's ideal table
My ideal table would consist of people looking to build an enjoyable experience and story together, where danger and risk results in laughs and shouts of joy when success is narrowly achieved. I always run shenanigan-rich games that put the focus on the characters and the amazing things they do.

I love it when a player
supports others at the table; whether its asking an npc something important to another character's backstory, or casting bless for the frontlines, everything is better when we support each other.
I think metagaming...
is fine, this is still a game and it's supposed to be a enjoyable experience. Sometimes you need a little outside help to get past a difficult level and that's okay so long as everyone agrees.
My table is not the place for...
those who want a more grounded gritty experience. Detailed inventory tracking, ammunition counting, and encumbrance won't make an appearance in my games.
