About Caitlin

Hi there, I'm Caitlin! I've been playing D&D for over half my life and I first DM'ed for my stepbrother and his friends in high school, got the TTRPG bug and have been happily playing ever since. I love Dungeons & Dragons, but in my time playing my horizons have expanded and I also would be thrilled to share a game of Star Wars 5e, Warhammer 40k or Daggerheart with you! Bringing new players into the game and exposing them to the joy and wonder of TTRPGs is one of my favorite aspects of being a DM, but I also love grabbing a table of experienced chaos goblins and seeing where they take our adventure! Everyone is welcome at my table, except those who would make others feel unwelcome. I'm a firm believer that TTRPGs are a huge benefit to our mental health and our overall wellbeing, and I view my games as a bubble of escapism and safety from whatever else might be going on in your life. That is to say, you'll be safe. I make no guarantees about your characters! đź’€ I am a fun first, rule of cool DM and I enjoy the roleplaying and immersion that comes with running games, so expect music and atmospheric VTTs and my best attempts at accents for the NPCs I voice. I also embrace the sandbox side of games like D&D and very much leave where the session goes up to my players. Even if running a pre-written module, chances are it will be at least tweaked to allow as much player freedom as possible.

When I'm not running games I'm...

Playing video games, writing stories, cooking, chilling with my cats, drawing and doing crafts, or most likely prepping for the next game!

How Caitlin runs games

My favorite DMs were always the ones who trusted their players to lead the story and the party, without a bunch of restrictions and finicky house rules. That means I will let you pretty much have free reign in character creation, and in return all I ask is that you be a team player and work with me to tell a great story during our game. I am a collaborative storyteller and will always include personalized player hooks and backstory in my games. Rule of cool always, but you have to make a convincing case for why! If you roleplay it out with me and the idea is clever, hilarious or just over the top enough, I'll probably say yes. I always try to match a party's energy--if the vibe is tense, dangerous and high stakes, with brutal combat every session and a real chance of character death, I'm down. If we're feeling a cozy game with a party of talking animals, great! Love that for us. I tend to the chaotic, weird and quirky as far as playstyle, so don't be afraid to hit me up with your outside the box ideas...again, if you convince me I'll probably say yes. I love acting and am very good at doing very bad accents for my NPC voices. Most importantly, as the DM I will never make you solve an in-game puzzle if you don't want to.

If my games were Movies they'd be directed by...

Taika Waititi, Jordan Peele, David Fincher or Shawn Levy, depending on the game!

Caitlin's ideal table

My table is well planned and well organized to facilitate you, the players, picking up the story and running with it. I prepare so you can go wherever the session takes you. I'm not a rules lawyer or afraid of improv in the slightest, but I do pride myself on having the behind the scenes aspects such as the VTT, the rules (if we need them) and help with any questions or concerns players have in-game taken care of for a smooth, fun experience for all. I do enjoy the technical aspects of a platform like Foundry, which allow for music and special effects and slightly "video game ified" combat, but if a table prefers a more organic, close to in person as possible experience rolling real dice and drawing on a blank map, that's just as valid. If you DO like the fun stuff you can add with a VTT, I've got you.
