About Brian

I am a Disabled Air Force Veteran, artist, published writer & lyricist, game designer, and experienced Educational Dungeon Master. As the Managing Editor and Publisher of The Star Wars Adventurers Journal, I bring my passion for storytelling and gaming to life. With expertise in creating custom-tailored teaching experiences, I cater to diverse learning needs, including neuro-divergent students, and prioritize inclusiveness in all my educational and gaming endeavors. When I'm not gaming, I enjoy gardening, exploring virtual worlds on MetaQuest 3, and gaming on PS5. I'm proud to be a husband, father of three, and grandfather of three, balancing my love of games, art, and family. Native to the Finger Lakes region of New York, I cherish my roots while embracing new adventures.

How Brian runs games

Roleplay over Roll play. Collaborative World Building. When I create a campaign, I like to see it as a book or TV series. The number of books/seasons in the series is determined by the number of characters. Each night of gaming is a chapter/episode. Self-contained to run for one night with planning provided for adventures that run for two episodes. Each book/season has subplots for all characters, but focus remains on one character’s progression. For each book I pick a musical album by an artist. • The number of tracks dictates the number of chapters/episodes, with each track titling the chapters/episodes. • I print out the songs, read the lyrics and annotate my interpretations based on the setting, characters, what they want to play, etc... How I have used it in the past Serenity • Midlakes album Trials of Van Occupanther for a Serenity • Thomas Dolby’s A Map of the Floating City, with One of our Submarines is Missing by Thomas Dolby kicking off campaign where the players were members of a towing/salvage/first responder crew who came to be known as the Blue Angels. Eventually ending with them discovering location of a lost Ark from earth, the titular Floating City. Second campaign was to see them get it and bring it back Star Wars • Trick of the Tail by Genesis fueled a Star Wars Reconstruction Authority campaign, involving a Krayt Dragon Jedi Master, minor time travel, and things left undone.

I love it when a player

does something unexpected and something that adds to the story we are telling together.

I think it's a red flag when players...

discuss their other games, characters, and DMs during the game we’re currently playing.

My table is not the place for...

rules lawyers. You need to be comfortable and flexible.
