About the adventure

Set in the fictional town of Whitt, Ohio, the rural folk of Whitt just want to live a simple life. Too bad the strangest things happen here! Hired by The Brink Bureau, it's up to your group of monster hunters to stop whatever otherworldly entity is causing trouble. One week you might investigate a coven of witches scamming a cat fashion show. The next you might be called to collect a rare artifact from an unusual warehouse. You may even need to relocate a troll who's taken to living in people's garages. Come for the mystery, stay for the lols. If you're a fan of Courage the Cowardly Dog, Scooby-Doo, Ghostbusters, Gravity Falls with a sprinkle of X-Files, MiB, and Buffy, you've already got an interview with The Brink Bureau.

How to prepare

Create your character ahead of time. I’m happy to help too! Before the session, I’ll work with you to go over how they fit in with The Brink Bureau and the other characters. Here’s a checklist of the technical stuff: 1} A computer or other device with connection to the internet. 2} Discord! It’s what we run the game through, just audio, and where I leave prep materials. 3} A microphone setup for audio. Doesn't need to be be professional grade. Just needs to work. 4} A pdf viewer for viewing the playbooks and reference sheet. 5} Something to take notes with.

What I provide

A stand alone mission - complete with Monsters, Minions, and Bystanders, and a killer soundtrack!

Gameplay details

Players are monster hunters, the exceptional ones, each with a different way of handling the mystery and the monsters. Each kind of hunter gets unique moves, with some better at fighting, others focused on helping innocents, and some mastering the magical and the weird. Gameplay is very fluid. It’s more of a collaborative conversation between the players and the Keeper (that’s me). Think of it like a TV show. The players control the character’s actions and reactions, while I dictate the environment around them. Some actions might require a move from the hunters and depending on how the dice fall, miracles or mistakes may follow. But it’s all a part of the story! Each one shot is composed of a specific assignment but for returning players, there will be a story that develops if you use the same character. Returning players can keep the same character or play a different one (characters level up after enough accomplishments and/or mistakes). Player character voices are fun and encouraged but not required. We’re all just trying our best :) Safety Tools include but are not limited to using the X-Card system and content warning before each one shot.

How will character creation work

Each type of hunter is represented by a playbook (part of the prep materials found on the Discord). If you are brand new to TTRPGs, I have found it helps to have a rough idea of what monster hunter you might want to play as. Take inspiration from your favorite TV shows or movies and play the Hero you wish you could be. Maybe you’re a member of a secret monster hunter guild who can see into the future, a tech-wiz teenager who reads all the cryptozoology subreddits, a humble food truck man/wereboar who wants to protect others from the same fate. Whatever you pick, I’ll work with you before the actual session to create your character so you can be ready for action!
