Descent into Avernus

About the adventure

Descent into Avernus is a level 1 - 13 adventure that takes adventures through the corrupt city of Baldur's gates with death cults, demons, and a slowly unraveling political system that puts the lives of citizens and refugees on the line. Traversing into Avernus the 1st layer of the Nine Hells where morals or vague at best but contracts and deals are forever binding, using souls for fuel in infernal war machines to travers the hellish landscape and the rule of a fallen angel surveys all of it. And finally attempting to deal, betray, destroy or just survive in an attempt to rescue Elturel the once shiny pinnacle of holy might in Fearun. This setting is fantastic for challenging players both tactics of combat and tactics of negotiation, creating alliance and contracts with demons and devils to increase the adventurers powers and influence in Avernus. These deals and alliences force players to deal with greys and ride the line between right and wrong for the greater good. Allowing both the DM and players to really explore the characters and the denizens of game.

How to prepare

Please be familiar with the basic rules of Dungeons and Dragons but expertise is not needed. Also having a dndbeyond free account, beyond20 web extension, discord and a Roll20 account will make everything as smooth as possible with online play.

Gameplay details

Avernus is a strong RP driven module that I use to encourage players to really think about how their characters choices and long term consequences. While this is a game that encourages solid planning I attempt to stream line play allowing players to become more confident in game choices and avoiding the classic option paralysis. Combat still plays an integral role in the game as it does in many D&D settings but it is not the only option in many situations.

How will character creation work

We will host a session 0 where character creation will be held so that players may create adventurers that are fully entrenched in the world and have investment in the history, politics and intrigue of Baldur's Gate

Players can expect

• Find a game to join solo or search for a professional game master for you and your friends/coworkers/family.
• Book your session and wait for the Game Master to approve you.
• If you don't have a blast with your first game, your next game is on us.
