About Doug Powis
Hi,I'm Doug. I have been playing and running D&D 5e since 2020, and now I am looking to expand the systems I play to some OSR style games and non-fantasy settings.

I got started GMing...
During the pandemic when I heard a friends group couldn't meet and I started running games online for them.
My 3 systems I'd bring to a desert island would be
D&D 5e, Shadowdark, and Pirate Börg
My favorite system of all Time is
Blades in the Dark, but, it is my white whale because my GM style does not suit that game at all. I need extensive prep!

I deal with rules issues by...
Having a conversation and trying to find a compromise where possible, but ultimately I hope my players accept my ruling.
I prep by
I use the 8 steps of the Lazy Dungeon Master method, it has served me well.
Rules are...
Rules are to be followed, until they do not make sense in the context of your game, or they limit play.

I am for a vibe that's...
I like a relaxed vibe. No try-hards, no veterans looking to show off their years of knowledge, just some folks rolling dice.
I love it when a player
I love it when players make 'sub-optimal' choices because it suits their character. A popular like not checking to see whether a chest is trapped because they are keen to get the treasure and they have a level of exhaustion so they aren't thinking straight.
I think min/maxing...
I think min/maxing has it's place in certain systems and games. However, I typically enjoy lower-powered play, tier 1 D&D for example, so min/maxing can unbalance a group and make encounters boring/extremely deadly for everyone else.
