About the adventure

This campaign is for new and seasoned DND players alike; for those who enjoy heavy roleplay sprinkled into dungeon crawls, mysteries, and combat scenarios that grow with the story and players. If anyone is itching to immerse themselves in a new homebrew world that has plenty of room for growth and collaboration, this game is sure to tickle the creative muscles. Never a strong stickler for “the rules” and if anything, I like to add at-table rules that help keep the flow of the game moving and fun for everyone. You’ll get your moments to shine and discover things as your character, and I am more than happy to build character lore into the world of the game as well. It’s a world where if your player dies, it matters and affects the world. And making a new one doesn’t just feel like a dry do-over. Where Nat 1s don’t feel like failure but flavor. We’re not here to win, we’re to tell stories and have silly goofy fun. But of course, nobody dislikes a perfectly-timed Nat 20 to spice things up. Join us!

About me

i got into dm’ing when the game i was playing in fizzled out from other party members kinda just, not showing up. i always loved the process of creating worlds, cities, and characters of my own. rpg video games got me started, along with writing fantasy novels for myself growing up and it kinda just took on its own life from there! i’m not the kind of dm who likes to “beat” their players but rather give y’all colorful worlds and challenges to live and breathe in, all while telling an incredible (and often ridiculous) story together :)

Character creation

Creating your character

You can bring in your own or we can make them together at session zero. We will either roll for stats or use the point buy system. I like to start at level 2 to have the characters already be partially established in this world without the feeling of level 1 of just being thrust into the quest as normal people. For this campaign, I’d like to stick with the core races of DND, however would be open to certain extended source races.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

I like to use Discord to communicate, share materials, etc. and use sources via Dnd Beyond so having accounts on those platforms would be helpful!

What Ren brings to the table

I love to RP and bring the world to you and you into the world as much as possible. You will hear many a voice or accent from me and I encourage it from players as well! I like to throw in background music for scenes and combat of course, and oh yes, there will be plenty of fighting (but not an over abundance I promise). It will be a mix of theatre of the mind and actual constructed battle maps. The Rule of Cool definitely always has a seat at the table and I encourage players to think outside the box and paint the picture to make things more interesting than on paper!

Homebrew rules

- potion drinking is a bonus action. you may also use a bonus action to throw a potion at a player out of reach and smash it on their head, giving them the effects of said potion as well - there is always a rock (self explanatory; you may always find a palm-sized rock or smaller to use for literally anything your mind can think of) - critical hits are your choice of doubling dice rolled or doubling the damage rolled - i do not track spell components except for diamond for Revivify - first death madness table — if a pc fails 3 death savings throws and dies for the first time, they may choose to not die and come back with 1 hit point but “lose something” (d100 roll on a homebrew madness table). if they die again, that is a pc death.

Safety

How Ren creates a safe table

I like to discuss boundaries and care during session 0, but I first and foremost want to make sure players are feeling safe and having fun. I write about what I know and is familiar to me in life, however that does not mean any player has to sit through anything they don’t want to. I have a clear discussion on what is cool and what to steer clear from in games, always open to feedback and discussion after a session or campaign, and always looking for ways to improve the experience for everybody. All collaborative thoughts are welcome here!
