About the adventure
"The road to Waterdeep is quite dangerous. Are you sure you wouldn't rather take a ship?" Your bartender asks you as you pull out your coin purse to pay him. You are more than sure. This is the best way to save for your new life. You have just enough to get the supplies you need and find proper lodging when you arrive until you find work in the city. This adventure is a fun and dynamic story that will help you learn the ins and outs of how to best build your character, as well as give you information about the Forgotten Realms lore. Paths and Poppies is meant for everyone, but most especially newer individuals to the hobby of TTRPG who are looking for something a little more long term without being too intense. Travel the Trade Way, a road going from Baldur's Gate to Waterdeep, to start a new life in the big city! You could be running from the law, hoping to get an apprenticeship, or hunt for the gold rumored to be bellow the city. Allow me to narrate your story as you embark on this adventure.

Meet the Game Master
About me
Hello! My name is Salem. I have been playing TTRPG's since I was eighteen, giving me about eleven years of experience in the TTRPG space, and I have been DMing for about half that time. My journey with this game started well before I began playing. When I was thirteen and my dad DMed for a home game for some of his friends he had me pick out his monsters for his players to fight so the game always felt fresh and fun. He would hand me a monster manual and tell me a size to choose and roll his d100 to figure out how many he was going to throw their way. He would even ask me what story hooks he should use. Often giving me a lot of creative freedom. As I got older my love for story telling never stopped. I would write small short stories and create characters who I fell in love with, some who are still used in my homebrew world today. When I began DMing I challenged myself every week to give my players a new experience they hadn't gotten at another table. Over time as the stories we all told together became more elaborate I eventually found my footing in setting the scene. A combination of music, soundboards, and voices became the way I was able to paint a picture for my players. Now with my monthly game I go above and beyond with sets and props. My players and I spend the whole month leading up to the game talking about how to best immerse them into the story. And now I want to bring that immersion and story telling to more people! Allow me to narrate your next adventure.

Creating your character
There will be one on one calls with the GM, that's me, where we will go over your character sheet. We will be going over how to build your character on D&DBeyond, how the website works, what you're character's motivations for coming to the ball is, and what your character would and would not know going into the game.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
I will send a Discord link to you personally when the game is full of players where we will discuss the everyone's schedule for a session zero. You will need a D&DBeyond account and a discord account. You will need to have had your one on one call with me going over your character then your session zero going over the game expectations for both you as the player and me as your GM.
What Salem brings to the table
I have a premium D&DBeyond account which allows me to share content with people in my campaigns. I will be providing that link for you to attach your characters so you may use most, if not all, the books for 2014 rules. I use music and soundboards to set the tone for a scene or game. I am still getting the hang of voices, but they are seen in my games from time to time, as well as visual aids to help immerse you deeply into the world!

How Salem creates a safe table
Session Zero is a must! I also have a Lines and Veils document that needs to be filled out along with your character sheet, which will be provided upon our personal call. After a long session, I typically like to do a bit of aftercare with my players. I want to touch base with everyone, making sure they had a fun time and play some soft music while getting everyones input. A long session can lead to a bit of a drop once it is over. So please stay afterwards if you feel you need a bit of time to come out of it.
