About the adventure

Welcome the the Union Navy, Pilot! Glad to have you aboard the Rio Grande, the finest Light Cruiser in this sector. As a brand new member of a brand new squad, there are some things you ought to know. Firstly, we are a warship but we are on a diplomatic mission. Union Command wants us helping Ambassador Bannerjee get Diasporan Worlds to agree to rejoin the Union and begin the process of becoming Core Worlds. This mission is to the Diasporan World of Cressidium. Before the revolution, the Second Committee managed to settle this planet as a colony and was well on their way to making it a Core World. Now that the Third Committee is in charge, its time to clean up the mess SecCom left for us, but about 500 years removed from the fact. Seems like we walked into a Cold War, between Leandric States Alliance, who seem to like what the ambassador is saying so far, and Vestan Soverignty, a bunch of old school nobility, probably descended from SecCom supporters. So far negotiations are smooth, so hopefully Captain Farris will be moving us to another world soon. Settle in, grab a bunk, and go pick out your Chassis and weapons in the Printing Bay. Actually, while you're at it, go meet the rest of your squad, I'm sure they'd appreciate getting to know the newest Lancer onboard. Welcome to the UNS-CV Rio Grande Lancer, see you at the next briefing.

About me

Hello There! Welcome to my page! I've been DMing for a long time and have specialized in helping new players develop and grow in the hobby of TTRPG's. My preferred system is D&D 5e, but I also have some experience with the Chronicles of Darkness and World of Darkness systems. I've familiarized myself with a multitude of systems over the years so if you want to homebrew mechanics, I have a wealth of knowledge to work with. I have my own homebrew settings that can be played as One-Shot modules, or as full scale campaigns. I house rule specific things within either of my preferred systems to favor the quality of life for my players. I take my time resolving in-game events. The only thing I ask is that I receive the same respect and patience that I will show you as we progress. Roll Initiative, let's get started!

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will occur at Session 0 for the starting mechs and pilots. We will slowly progress up from License Level 0, meaning that character creation options are limited and focused, and they are all available for free through COMP/COM (which I will direct players through and provide assistance with then importing the resulting character data into the Owlbear extension for Lancer).

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Players will need a mic and a discord account in good standing to connect to the voice chat, as well as to agree to the rules of my discord server upon joining. An account with COMP/CON will be needed but this does not need to be made ahead of time, I can and will assist. Camera's and your own dice are optional. Pen and paper are always recommended for any TTRPG in the event you benefit from having them available.

What Ben The GM in the Keep brings to the table

I will provide a virtual tabletop (Owlbear Rodeo) along with a dice rolling bot integration and character sheet enabled plugin (Witchdice) and assist players in the use of a cloud based service that will enable them to create character sheets and import them (COMP/CON). I will also provide access to a Discord server designed with organization and ease of use in mind. A working microphone is required, but a camera is optional.

How Ben The GM in the Keep creates a safe table

A break is planned in every session to use the bathroom, decompress, get something to eat etc. Using emoji's in Discord DM's as a means of anonymous XNO cards is available, as is a built in X card in the recommended Dice Rolling resource provided to the players. As an added precaution, a session 0 will be made available to players, along with an Open Door policy to facilitate discussion and dissection of any content players would like to examine. Beyond that, Open Door policy discussions are held in confidence (though I reserve the right to ask my moderators for opinions on issues that might be objectionable. In such an event, anonymity will be preserved to the best of my ability.) I encourage players to make use of these tools, as I hold the firm belief that we can have games that feature deep, complex, or dark topics, without sacrificing the personal comfort of the table's members.
