About the adventure
The remote village of Mohk calls for aid! A strange tower has appeared atop a nearby mountain, its fell magic the cause of bizarre and dangerous events. Dark forests! Vile swamps! Massive, twisted creatures akin to Great Beasts of legend! The people live in fear, and their Prince does nothing. It is down to you, adventurers! Will you rise to the call? Will you master the Great Beasts? Tame the land? Will you journey to the Tower of Mohk and discover what secrets, and treasures, it holds? 🏯 Explore a land fractured by erratic magics. 🏯 Encounter weird (and sometimes colossal!) creatures. 🏯 Find a way to the Tower, and survive what you discover there. What you learn may be only the beginning. ------------------------ New players welcome. ------------------------

About me
There are few things I love more than the collaborative storytelling, insane creativity, and barely controlled chaos that occurs in tabletop role-playing games. I come from a writing and performance background, and I come to each session well-prepared but ready to improvise, and while I'm very tech-forward (love me some bells and whistles, and explosions), I'm equally comfortable with a map drawn in the moment, pure theatre of the mind, and descriptive play-by-text posts. I've been running games for about 20 years, in several different game systems, and have hosted players from multiple countries with ages that range from 4 to 70+, with a wide variety of personalities, idiosyncrasies, and specific requirements (whether they be due to age, neurodivergence, or something else). Don't know the system? Intimidated by role-play? No problem. I am happy to help you have an awesome time while you get comfortable.

Creating your character
Characters will start at Level 3. Feel free to create your concept before we begin -- and feel extra free to get weird with it -- but be flexible enough to allow for the best fit with story elements and the party. I am happy to work with you on builds and backstory (let's create some juicy narrative hooks!) and to answer any questions you may have both before and during Session 0, as well as between sessions. This is a custom world, so there are some additional cultural and mixed-species options. You're not locked in, though. If you want to play something that isn't normally from this world, we just have to figure out how you got there. We will use D&D Beyond's character creator and Maps, focusing on 2024's 5.5e content (but mixing in some 2014 is totally fine). If there is something specific that you want to do and I don't have it available in D&D Beyond, if you or I own it offline, we can figure that out. If it's possible to adapt it into D&D Beyond, I can do it. Homebrew is also an option, but I will want to review and potentially tweak its balance, first. All homebrew remains as "subject to tweaking" throughout the campaign, in case it proves to be game-breaking or causes probelms at the table. At Session 0, we will finalize characters, including rolling stats and hit points, and we will also establish any inter-party connections and previous in-world experiences. Be excited about your concept, but again, remember to leave room for movement. The goal is a group of characters with a shared, generally heroic(ish) objective, who are able to work together in extraordinary circumstances (evil for the sake of evil characters need not apply).
-- Charisma -- Tiefling Sorcerer (Draconic). Very passionate about setting things on fire. -- You -- And who might you be?
What to expect
Preparing for the session
When you join the game, you will receive the Discord server link, and an invitation link to the D&D Beyond campaign. Content sharing will be on and you can feel free to explore (remember that stats and hit points are rolled at Session 0). You will need: - Access to a computer, tablet or smartphone (D&D Beyond app or website) with a stable internet connection - A Discord account - A D&D Beyond account - A working microphone/headset - A reasonably quiet space (life happens -- Push-to-Talk can help, if needed) [OPTIONAL] Webcam: Being able to see each other's expressions increases connection and immersion, and so it is encouraged, but not required. [OPTIONAL] Physical Dice: If you want to roll real dice (I do!), have at it! You will have access to digital dice rollers, as well, available in D&D Beyond. Have pre-sale questions? Message me on StartPlaying and we can chat.
What 🐢 Kappl (Bobby GM) brings to the table
🤓 Years of experience running games online and in-person, with wildly different personalities and skill levels 🖥️ A VTT experience that combines theatre of the mind with immersive music and visuals (thematic scenes, handouts), and detailed maps, when needed 🧝♀️ NPCs with unique voices, personalities and motivations 🧛 Dangerous enemies that are more than just statblocks 💡 Challenges that encourage multiple possible approaches ✅ Choices that matter, in an lore-filled, but accessible world that grows and changes based on those choices 👐 An open, welcoming environment that is safe, inclusive and collaborative 📚 A deep love for building immersive narrative experiences 🍄 A healthy dose of silly to offset the dark and serious 👏 A willingness to throw the rulebook out the window when something makes sense and is super-cool
Homebrew rules
I maintain a list of homebrew mechanics and rules that I regularly use, some of which are specific to the custom world. I also have a selection of optional mechanics that we will discuss at Session 0. EXAMPLES: ROLLING ABILITY SCORES Roll 4d6 and drop the lowest. Do this 6 times, and then add your totals to the attributes in whichever order you like. OPTIONAL: If, after class, feat, and species bumps, you don't have at least one 17, boost one of your scores to 17. ROLLING HIT POINTS Hit points are always rolled. If any rolled die is a 1, reroll it. HEROIC INSPIRATION All characters begin each session with a d20 Inspiration (free reroll). - Inspiration may also be earned during play in the form of a d6 that can be added to any roll. This is provided by the DM for exceptional role play and super fun creative things and such. One d6 inspiration can be added to any roll made by you. - Remaining Inspired: Unused d20 inspiration expires at the end of the session. However, the player can hold up to 2 d6 inspiration charges across sessions. - Inspiring others: You may pass one of your inspiration tokens to another player at a time of your choosing, but you must first show how you are attempting to inspire them. DARKVISION Animals that are good at seeing in the dark have Darkvision. Cats? Darkvision. Bunnies? Darkvision. Bats? Darkvision augmented by echolocation, so advantage. HOMEBREW TWEAKING Any homebrew used or developed for this campaign is permanently considered "beta" and may be fine-tuned at the DM's discretion if it is discovered to be too unbalanced, or is not fun for the entire table. INTERMIXED This world has a custom mechanic that allows for mixing traits for up to three species. This is subject to the homebrew tweaking rule, but has worked well in play, thus far. INTER-PARTY THIEVERY AND PVP Neither are allowed without express and CONTINUOUS consent from all involved. In the case of PvP, this includes players whose characters are not directly engaged, as it affects everyone's play time. ________________________ Additional world-specific elements and optional rules and mechanics will be available upon joining the campaign and discussed at Session 0.

How 🐢 Kappl (Bobby GM) creates a safe table
Before Session 0, you will be provided with a link to a Lines and Veils/Consent Checklist where you can list the topics you wish to avoid. We will also employ the X-Card. For my part, I have a hard rule that I will not roleplay anything that will make me feel unavoidably gross, no matter the situation. I also encourage aftercare, if needed, breaks, and follow the Open Door protocol. If there are ever any concerns, please feel free to talk to me out-of-game, if you are comfortable with it.
