About the adventure
Oh Obojima. I say this with a dreamy sigh. As someone who has been near exclusively enmeshed in the fire, muck and mire of the Nine Hells, and the blood-lust of Barovia, this module is a gulp of fresh ocean air, a healthy dose of nostalgic whimsy to my soul. Think Studio Ghibli meets Dungeons & Dragons. That’s the simplest way of putting it. It’s a self-contained plane of existance with many secrets if one goes looking for them. It’s slice-of-life if you wish it to be. (And I hope you do.) As an aging Millennial, I love the 1980s tech that is scattered about. Think boom boxes powered by magical jolts instead of batteries where magical tomes are contained on cassette tape recordings. It’s simply…novel, whimsical, and cute, and with the way this world is going, I'm thinking it’s what many of us need right now. I do hope to see you soon at the shores of Obojima Island soon. xo Moss

About me
I’m pretty sure my love of immersive storytelling and Dungeons & Dragons began the moment I picked up my first Choose Your Own Adventure book in third grade. I was one of those “Talented and Gifted” kids of the late ’80s and early ’90s (we’d call it neurodivergent now), and let’s just say that sitting still wasn’t my strength (hello, undiagnosed ADHD). While most teachers didn’t know what to do with me, my third-grade teacher (bless her) sent me to the library instead of the office. After being taught the Dewey Decimal System and filing away all the sticky books, I’d sneak off to the reading corner and dive into every adventure I could get my hands on. I didn’t just read those books, I explored every possible outcome, and something inside me came alive. Fast-forward to my 30s (yep, my 30s), when my partner introduced me to Dungeons & Dragons, My brain went click! And then BOOM! And I’ve been hooked ever since. After over a decade as a player, I’m now stepping into the role of Dungeon Master (cue fancy-sounding music), offering play-by-post games that are welcoming, patient, a little bit messy, and perfect for beginners, or seasoned players curious about a slower, story-rich format. Whether you're diving solo or joining a group game, I’ll guide you through the game at your pace. You'll get a deeply personalized experience built around shared storytelling, creativity, and emotional connection. Together, we'll carve out a little pocket of wonder, an escape from the chaos of this world into a world where you simply feel a bit more better-er. To me, D&D is joy, catharsis, and magic all wrapped into one, I’d love to help you find that, too. xo, Moss
View Profile →Character creation
Creating your character
For this particular campaign, we have a lot of cover. Because of this, I ask that you hold off on character creation until we officially begin with Session 0. While we will start at level 2 and we will be using 2024 rule set, a lot of our focus will be learning the island’s history and, well, vibe, tone, etc. so that we can seamlessly place you into this world as someone who has already existed there awhile. For example: - What part of the island is your old stomping ground? Coastal Highgrounds? The Gale Fields? - Who do you already know? Are you a member of the Knights Postal Service? Were you a Youth Scout? These sorts of Very Important Decisions (smirk!) help shape your character and so we do spend our first week going over character creation, island history, those sorts of things, but I digress…. There's a lot, but I will be with you every sandy step of the way.

What to expect
Preparing for the session
You will need D&D Beyond, Discord, and access to the internet. Mobile is fine if that's all you got, but I do highly suggest using a PC/laptop for comfortability with typing and writing. I also encourage you to write your responses into a Google Doc or MS Word and copy-pasta other players + my responses into your document to help you write. That way everyone has a living ‘book' to easy look back upon.
What Moss brings to the table
You can expect 100% human writing. No AI. But because I am human, I may make lovely human style mistakes: Typos. Glorious misspellings. Etc. My writing style is eclectic. (I have worn many hats. Creative writer. Business writer. Copy writer. Research writer.) And so style may vary depending on energy and bandwidth. Some days you may get exciting prose, and other days you might get more straightforward DM “plain-speak,” but what you will get is some sort of post Monday through Friday pending someone from your group posted for me to reply to that day. It’s that simple. I will creatively (or businesslike if need be) keep the story moving along every day pending a group member who has said something that day. It might simply be a NPC chit chatting with that player, or describing something important, or asking the group what the heck they wish to do, but as your DM, I will keep it moving. As far as how much I will write? Honestly, it will vary. The goal is to keep the campaign moving. So if it requires a few sentences, that is what it will be. If it’s a few paragraphs, then that is what it will be. The goal is to keep things moving a lot. And as DM, I will use my judgement and Big Human Creative Brain to decide what is best. My writing hours, to be explicit, are Monday through Friday, 9:30 am to 2:30 pm EST. So if you get your post in after 2:30 pm EST, I will not get to respond until the next day. If you get your post at 2:00 pm EST it will be a -little- iffy, but if you post at 10:00 am EST, you’ll get a response that day. I do not write on the weekends. I need them off. Caveat: On occasion, if life comes up, and I have a poor day for whatever reason, I will post to my main Discord channel that I cannot post that day, say I say, "Sorry folks, cannot post today, I will use Saturday as a make-up writing day," and then I will use Saturday to make up for the fact I didn’t post, say on Friday. That sort of thing. Hope that makes sense.
Homebrew rules
I humbly request that all writers/players not use AI assisted writing in campaigns. No Claude, no Grok, no ChatGPT, for-the-love-of-human-creativity, NO AI at my virtual tables. I am sad enough we cannot all be together in the real as is. I know in this lovely day-and-age more and more folks are turning to AI to aid with writing. If you want to do so in your free time, do so, but all my campaigns are 100% AI-free and that is a firm home-brew rule. Home brew your ideas, please. If I suspect a player is using AI to aid their writing, I will politely remind them to not, and if it continues I will ask a player to leave the game. (I have a 3 strike rule about AI use; three suspicious posts and you are out; I want -your- words, not AI’s.) I suggest opening up a simple Google Doc and just, well, write. I do not care about typos, or run-ons, or what one might consider bad or poor writing. This is about sharing ideas and playing D&D. Write however you write! I want your ideas, not a bot’s. If you want to play D&D with a computer, then I suggest playing BG3. (wink!)

How Moss creates a safe table
Note that ALL games can be run “spicy” at the request of the players, but please message me if this is something you are interested in. All players must consent to such and a full week is spent on discussion on what sort of spice is to be had. (muah!) I am very well versed in kink and fetish, but do practice full consent. This is an 18+ game. Romance is allowed at the table. Sex will by default will fade to black in public scenes. However sex can be role-played privately between DM + player or between players with explicit consent and I am more than happy to 'provide a virtual room' if anyone wishes to have one. I ask that players NOT have private sex scenes without a DM to be there as a liaison to keep scenes safe for all parties. This is for accountability and your safety. Please read the content warnings carefully. These are all things that will likely happen within the context of this module. It is presumed that all these things are bad and terrible but are necessary for the plot and up to the PCs to decide how to handle them. I will fade things to black and not glorify unethical things. If any of these things are triggering to the point of causing you trauma, reach out to me. We can work it out. Saying this: I use a Campaign Safety & Consent Checklist and an emoji system is used directly upon posts within Discord for you to let players and me, the DM, know you are enthusiastically consenting to ideas and concepts or wish particular ideas and concepts to slow down or stop entirely. (For example a [RED STOP SIGN EMOIJI] means stop this altogether and a discussion needs to be had with me, the DM).
