About the adventure
Forty years ago the Council of Agori declared that their next great mission (and therefore that of their most loyal citizens) would be to reclaim the lost city of Herim. Generations of Agorian's had been raised on the fables of Herim's wealth and historical significance - and now the children of a generation lay slain before the lost city's walls on the Council's orders. Through it all, an order of holy warriors has arisen to champion the cause of the Council, and lead crusades south to finish the mission. The Knights of Justitia have swiftly become the stuff of legends - the stories told over campfires and the heroes children of Agori reenact on the streets and in fields. A new crusade is about to depart - and for the first time in a decade the Knights are looking to recruit the next legendary Agorian heroes. ~~~~ The Crusades are arguably one of the most researched, written about, historical fiction-pliant / Hollywood film material events of the last thousand years. They are also the source of a great deal of controversy, legend, racism, xenophobia, dangerous tales about items of power, and so much more. This campaign hopes to evoke even a small piece of the influence of the Crusades while avoiding ALL of the religious and race-based themes that haunt the real thing. I love history, and I have a deep love for historical fiction. As a kid I spent a lot of time reading books, and some of my favorites were by Stephen Lawhead. At various times his books set during the Crusades captured my attention (and held it brilliantly). What I am hoping here is to craft a new story with players who may share a similar interest in the time (or a historical interest in the Knights Templar), but without directly mimicking or utilizing the exact setting itself for obvious reasons. Players will be asked to craft their hero and seek recruitment by the Knights of Justitia. There is much more on character creation and some of the homebrew rules below that I believe will help flavor this adventure-loaf just the right amount to keep us in a Crusade-y vibe. Come on and join us!

About me
Hi, my name is Wynn. I am a dad, volunteer, and attorney who lives on the east coast. I'm originally from Western NY (Go Bills!) and have lived in a variety of places around the country. In my day job I get really stressed out, so this is what I do for fun! I had parents who would never have let me near DND as a kid, but who also encouraged me to embrace the worlds of Tolkien, Lewis, L'Engle, and so many more. I grew up with friends who would make wooden swords with me and reenact Redwall scenes out in the grove of trees behind their house. My imagination ran wild. In primary and secondary school, and then in college as well, I became invested in theater of all kinds - Shakespeare, musicals, opera - you name it. I loved being on stage and behind the scenes as well. Given all of those things - it only makes sense that when I finally stumbled upon the world of TTRPGs as an adult I felt like I had found what I'd been missing for such a long time. I dove in head-first, inundating myself first in the work of Critical Role and then on from there. I GMed many times before ever having the chance to play myself, but have been fortunate to be a player several times now - including on a recent (and fantastic) Daggerheart campaign through SPG! I can't wait to connect with more amazing people.

Creating your character
Players will create a level 1 character in DND Beyond utilizing the 2024 rules. I plan for levels 1-2 to be advanced through quickly (as the Knights of Justitia training finishes) and for the party to reach level 3 early in the campaign. After that, leveling up will happen throughout the campaign as experiences are had and characters grow. Generally speaking, I am looking for folks willing to play: Barbarians, Fighters, Rogues, Rangers, Paladins, Clerics, and Monks. Within the setting, magic use that is not from a more "religious" or "spiritual" origin is viewed by the citizens of Agori to be dangerous and forbidden. This is, in large part, due to the nature of the magic wielders who conquered Herim and stole it from them many years ago. All species options are a go - feel free to let your creativity flex! I will absolutely work with you if you have questions or want clarifications or have an idea that pushes back a little against the setting but you want to advocate for! Let's talk about it! I have some (but not all) resources in DND Beyond that I content share to give as many options as I can!
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Players will need a Discord account, a DND Beyond account, and potentially access to Owlbear Rodeo (may honestly give DND Beyond's Maps VTT a shot, we shall see!)
What WynnSome brings to the table
Through Discord I will set us up with a variety of private channels to help with character creation, maintenance of maps and lore if needed, PC/NPC tracking items as needed/requested, and our Tavern (voice chat). During sessions I will do my best to maintain an audio vibe through Kenku, and provide voices for each and every NPC in our story. I firmly believe that my job is to be collaborative with PCs - not combative! I want to prioritize the Rule of Cool and creativity to maximize player enjoyment while maintaining world/setting integrity!
Homebrew rules
As indicated above, I am generally steering players away from Wizard/Sorcerer/Warlock classes due to the setting. One added homebrew rule - I am adding a roll that I am calling the Final Test of Faith. When a PC (or NPC) is reduced to 0 hit points, they will begin death saves as normal. However, if another member of the Order can get there in time (before 3 fails) - that person can take a moment to see if their "faith" can restore their fallen comrade. This will be a d20 roll - on a 13 or higher the fallen person is restored to a single hit point and regains consciousness. There aren't any consequences for a failed roll - other than figuring out how your character may deal with the trauma of their beliefs failing them.

How WynnSome creates a safe table
Prior to beginning any game with me, I will have you complete a Digital Participant Agreement/No's & Go's Form. The Agreement & Form cover everything from: 1) What to expect from me and my game-style as far as topics, etc. 2) What content is out-of-bounds from the start - my hard lines. 3) What your big No's are (things you are uncomfortable with and don't want in your game). 4) What your Go's are (things you are comfortable with - at various levels - and ok with in your game). 5) My expectations of all participants regarding PC to PC conduct and interactions. 6) The tools/rules in place to help us maintain and monitor throughout game-play as things come up. And more. In my day to day life I work in the middle of situations where boundaries of all kinds have been crossed - personal, community, legal, and others. So I don't want to have to deal with that type of conflict in my free time if it can be avoided! So if you aren't down to be cool, stay calm, and keep things chill - then you'll probably want to look elsewhere.
