About the adventure

You have always dreamed of becoming one of the legendary monster hunters of the Golden Sun Caravan. After years of hardship and sacrifice, you finally reached the company’s headquarters… but the hunt itself is only half the story. In this play-tested campaign, you will have the opportunity to start at Level 11 and work through a selection of hunts found in Heliana's Guide to Monster Hunting Part I and Part II.

About me

I started playing tabletop games in the early 1990s and - despite many a hiatus - I eventually keep coming back to play some more. I originally started by playing BattleTech and WEG Star Wars but quickly transitioned into AD&D 2e and DnD 3e. Since then, I've played Call of Cthulu, D&D 4e and 5e, FATE, Exalted, and Heroes of Adventure. I am interested in PBP adventures and one-shots!

Character creation

Creating your character

You will be asked to bring three ideas for characters (e.g., a Dwarven Bard who dreams of performing for a massive crowd) to a free Session 0 session and pitch these to your fellow players. As part of the character creation process, you will be tasked with creating a shared history with the other characters in the party. Once you have decided upon a character, you will a level 11 character with character stats determined by point buy and following 2024 rules.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

We will utilize a Discord server and D&D Beyond. You will start at Level 11.

What Joseph brings to the table

Professional Guidance & Support: The GM has teamed with a professional instructional designer (and new GM!) to provide a curated play-by-post experience for all players. We provide the scaffolding and tutorials you need to master your character’s mechanics. The Hero You’ve Always Wanted: We will guide the process for creating characters of classes you’ve always wanted to play but haven’t ever been confident enough to do... play the character YOU want to play. A Curated Play-by-Post Experience: We provide a high-quality, structured PBP environment for all players... ensuring the story stays active and engaging for everyone involved, regardless of experience level. The Rule of Cool: We shall embrace the Rule of Cool... while we respect the system, your ingenuity and "cool factor" come first. Tailor-Made Customizations: Once your character has chosen their path, they’ll have more time for crafting custom magical items and custom feats that fit your specific story. The Training Phase: Early in the campaign, you will have a dedicated window for growth prior to your adventure. This window provides time for focused training and level-appropriate gear and item crafting to prepare for the journey ahead.

Homebrew rules

We are excited to help craft one-of-a-kind magic items for your character. We will be using excursion resting rules. Excursion resting rules only allow for a long rest in a safe haven (such as your home or a secure inn) or after three consecutive uninterrupted 8-hour rests in any other fixed location, for instance - a base camp in the jungle; a short rest is given after any uninterrupted 8-hour break. We’ve developed supports to make crafting times shorter, and for martial characters to be able to utilize magic items that they would not normally be able to, using RAW. Silvery Barbs is not allowed. We allow potions to be consumed as a bonus action.

Safety

How Joseph creates a safe table

We will have an explicit Lines and Veils survey at the start of the campaign and will always be willing to move something to a veil or a line in-game if requested (all such conversations will be made via private channel).
