About the adventure

From Halloween Heists to hunting down the “Pontiac Bandit” of the Sword Coast, Baldur’s Nine-Nine is the ultimate game for players who want to progress their characters without committing to a full campaign. Using the 2024 D&D rules, we bring the fast-paced, witty energy of a procedural comedy to the gritty streets of the Forgotten Realms. Hidden beneath the bustle of Baldur’s Gate, the secret, 99th Precinct of the Harpers is the last line of defense against the weird, the wild, and the "cool-cool-cool." At the start of every session, your squad will choose a mission from the Precinct Bounty Board. Whether you're conducting a high-stakes sting operation in the Lower City or leading a tactical raid on a Zhentarim warehouse, your choices carry weight. Baldur’s Nine-Nine is a realm building sandbox. The outcomes of your missions directly impact the precinct’s renown and the political landscape of Baldur’s Gate. Did you accidentally burn down a tavern in the Upper City? Expect to see the fallout in the next session’s news. This West Marches game isn’t just a series of one-shots—it’s a shared story written by players across sessions. Join with a consistent character to build your "Detective" renown and level up from 5 to 10. Or, use our "Guest Star" system to experiment with new 2024 species and subclasses in every session. Suit up, Harpers. It’s time to show the Sword Coast that the Nine-Nine is on the case. Nine-Nine!

About me

Hi friends! My name is Kat, and I am a published author, video game narrative designer, and professional D&D game master. My debut novel, Good People, is forthcoming from Simon & Schuster in 2027. I’ve also worked as a writer for a South Korean video game developer. My game writing credits include Delabs Games’ Rumble Racing Star, Space Frontier, and other titles launched by Delabs Games’ parent company 4:33 Creative Lab. When it comes to D&D, I use my professional writing and game design experience to create immersive, custom stories with unique game loops. In addition to being a game master and professional writer, I’ve taught creative writing at the University of South Florida, and I use my college-level teaching experience to create a safe and inclusive learning environment for any new players at my tables. Character creation

Creating your character

I have pre-made characters for every class. If you’d like to use one, let me know in our Discord server. If you want to create your own character, here are the guidelines: - Level: 5. All new “detectives” start at level 5. - Level Progression: You can progress your character with each completed bounty. Level 10 is the precinct’s cap. Characters typically level up after completing 4-5 bounties. - Allowable Player Options: Use official 2024 content only. Homebrew content is not allowed. - Stats: Use Point Buy or Standard Array - Free Feat: In addition to whatever feat you select for level 4, all players receive the “Harper Feat” from Heroes of Faerun. Instructions for adding this additional feat is available in our Discord. Links to the Discord and DnDBeyond campaign will be provided after booking. - Starting Equipment: Use standard starting equipment OR starting gold. Regardless of your choice, you have an additional 100gp to spend on non-magical gear. - Magic Item: Choose 1 uncommon magic item from any official 2024 sourcebook. Permanent items only; no consumables like potions or scrolls.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

To play, you will need the following: 1. A microphone 2. Headphones to prevent echoes 3. A laptop or desktop computer 4. A reliable Internet connection 5. A free DnDBeyond account 6. A free Discord account 7. Cameras are optional. (I will have mine on!) To join our game, follow these steps: 1. Join our Discord server. A link will be provided after booking. Tag me in the #👋welcome channel and tell me which game you’re joining. 2. Join the DnD Beyond Campaign. A link will be provided after booking. 3. If you use the Beyond20 browser extension, disable it for the duration of our game. Temporarily disabling Beyond20 ensures that your rolls will appear in the game log on DnD Beyond.

What Kat brings to the table

I will provide maps on D&D Beyond, immersive music, and narrative-driven combat. I do my best to provide character voices for NPCs. As for rules, we'll be using the Rule of Cool for the most part.

Homebrew rules

Perkins Critical Hits: Roll once, then add the maximum possible damage for the damage die. (E.g. If you rolled a critical hit for your longsword attack, your damage will be 1d8 + 8 + your modifier.) Concentration Checks: If you roll a natural 20 on a concentration check, you enter a state of "Perfect Focus." For the rest of this combat, damage can no longer force you to make concentration saves for that specific spell. Your concentration will only end if the spell’s duration expires, you cast another concentration spell, or you are incapacitated.

How Kat creates a safe table

A link to our Lines and Veils document is available in the #🏁start-here channel on Discord. If you have any lines or veils you'd like to add to your game, DM me. No need to explain anything at all. I will anonymously add them to the list for our game to ensure the whole group is on the same page—no questions asked. We will also use X-Cards. If a scene or description makes you uncomfortable, simply type "X" in the text chat or say "Pause." We will immediately stop, skip the scene, or adjust the narrative—no questions asked and no explanation needed. You may DM me the X if you prefer. I’m very good at changing gears on a dime, and we’ll move on immediately.
