About the adventure

Humanoids weren't meant to go everywhere, and the deep jungles of Chult can certainly be classified as one of those places where the wilder of creatures hold dominion. And normally, you'd be just as pleased to daydream about what wonders lie buried beneath the steps of modern civilization, but unfortunately, today, you've been forced to step outside your comfort zone. You have been personally touched by the strange sickness sweeping over the continent; clerics from every order have begun to refer to it as the "Anathema Mori." Even the most skilled paladins haven't been able to reverse the effects. Your usual adventures bring you to places full of vibrance and life, but until this thing can be resolved, even the most vivacious of locales is coated with the cold haze of uncertainty.

About me

There’s something so special about gathering around the table with nothing more than a good idea and a few like-minded individuals. Whether it’s for an extended time or just a few hours, when you sit at my table, you can expect an experience that’s fulfilling, engaging, and tailored to your preferences. My role as the Game Master is to keep a good cadence. This means that I will do my best to ensure that gameplay moves at an appropriate pace for the set time frame and that all players ideas are heard by the table at large. It’s also my job to keep track of game rules and mechanics; you come with the creativity and I’ll guide you through the technical stuff! While I will always come to the table fully prepared to run the game, the world is yours to explore; outside of specific game mechanics, there’s no where in the game you can’t explore and you will always have full agency over your character and your character’s fate.

Character creation

Creating your character

We'll be starting at level one and I'll have some time set aside for a short session 0. Players should come to the session with stats rolled and most of their character built. Please take max HP. Players can reference whatever materials they wish in building a character; the main sources for this campaign are: The Player's Handbook and the module, The Tomb of Annihilation.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

We'll be using Discord for roleplay. https://discord.gg/xaEa9MnJ We'll also be using D&D Beyond Maps for combat encounters. https://www.dndbeyond.com/campaigns/join/75217473919165895 Players do not need to join the D&D Beyond campaign to participate in combat, but it will be helpful for long term campaign management.

What Nic brings to the table

I'm a Sandbox DM but I have an excellent handle on mechanics and will work with you to accomplish the cool thing you want to do within the Rules As Written. Though this is a module, our goal is to have fun! I reserve the right to adjust the module accordingly so that the story matches more of what our collective goal is. I have a wide range of character voices and will also utilize music and a soundboard to enhance our session.

Homebrew rules

A Natural 1 is an autofail and no modifiers can be added. A Natural 20 when rolling for initiative puts you at the top of the order, no matter what the total of the other rolls are. There is no Encumbrance. Drinking a potion is a bonus action; feeding a potion to another person is a full action. If you don't make note of an item found before the next session, it no longer exists in the world. When taking the Disengage Action during combat, you are free to move about the board; enemies will no longer target you as a combatant unless you reengage in combat by making an attack or aiding an ally. They may choose to chase you at the DMs discretion.

Safety

How Nic creates a safe table

Everyone will have the opportunity to private-message me their Lines & Veils during the first session. We will also be using a modified version of the X system. Players will be able to drop a campaign-specific emoji in the chat; there is no need to explain what exactly made you uncomfortable. I will move away from that scene and we won't return to it. After the session, I may ask to speak with you privately about the specifics of what made you uncomfortable so that I can update the Lines & Veils document. We will also go over my table rules and etiquette during session 1. After any intense session, I will hold space for players to debrief out of character. We will also take time for breaks throughout the session.
