About the adventure
Imagine Taika Waititi directing Game of Thrones. This campaign offers an epic, high-stakes narrative fueled by witty character dynamics and high-octane combat. We begin in the sun-drenched gardens of Baldur’s Gate for the wedding of two of your party’s closest friends—only for the ceremony to end in blood as the Dhampir sorcerer, Ximnea, strikes. In this level 1-20 sandbox campaign, your choices write the history of the Sword Coast. Whether you pursue a personal vendetta against Ximnea and her cult or navigate the cutthroat politics of Baldur’s Gate, this story is yours to forge. As you grow from local heroes to legendary saviors, you’ll unlock deep mechanics like expanded crafting rules and your very own Bastion at level 5. This is the perfect game for any players who want their character backgrounds to impact the overall story arc. Meet the Game Master
About me
Hi friends! My name is Kat, and I am a published author, video game narrative designer, and professional D&D game master. My debut novel, Good People, is forthcoming from Simon & Schuster in 2027. I’ve also worked as a writer for a South Korean video game developer. My game writing credits include Delabs Games’ Rumble Racing Star, Space Frontier, and other titles launched by Delabs Games’ parent company 4:33 Creative Lab. When it comes to D&D, I use my professional writing and game design experience to create immersive, custom stories with unique game loops. In addition to being a game master and professional writer, I’ve taught creative writing at the University of South Florida, and I use my college-level teaching experience to create a safe and inclusive learning environment for any new players at my tables. Creating your character
I recommend coming to Session 0 with three loose character concepts (class/species/vibe). We will collaborate to ensure everyone has a “lived-in” relationship with each player character and our wedding NPCs. If you already have a solid idea for your character, fantastic! Just bring that character to Session 0. I also have pre-made characters for every class. If you’d like to use one, let me know in our Discord server. When we do character creation, we’ll be using these guidelines: - Level: 1 - Allowable Player Options: Use official 2024 content only. Homebrew content is not allowed. - Stats: We will roll for stats during Session 0. You always have the safety net of Point Buy or Standard Array if you prefer. - Starting Equipment: Use standard starting equipment or starting gold. - Backstory (Optional): This is a sandbox where your history matters. If you want your backstory to impact the campaign’s story arc, tag me on Discord, and we will integrate your story into the world.
Party Level: 3 Warforged Bard Human Wizard Air Genasi Paladin Aasimar Rogue/Wizard Wood Elf Druid If you're interested in joining, feel free to play whatever class you'd like. I'll balance the encounters to ensure that combat is fun and challenging no matter the party composition.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
To play, you will need the following: 1. A microphone 2. Headphones to prevent echoes 3. A laptop or desktop computer 4. A reliable Internet connection 5. A free DnDBeyond account 6. A free Discord account 7. Cameras are encouraged but optional. (I will have mine on!) To join our game, follow these steps: 1. Join our Discord server. A link will be provided after booking. Tag me in the #👋welcome channel and tell me which game you’re joining. 2. Join the DnD Beyond Campaign. A link will be provided after booking. 3. If you use the Beyond20 browser extension, disable it for the duration of our game. Temporarily disabling Beyond20 ensures that your rolls will appear in the game log on DnD Beyond.
What Kat brings to the table
I will provide maps on D&D Beyond, immersive music, and narrative-driven combat. I do my best to provide character voices for NPCs. As for rules, we'll be using the Rule of Cool for the most part. If players choose to provide detailed backstories, I will weave them into the campaign's overarching story to create personalized high-stake choices and consequences.
Homebrew rules
Perkins Critical Hits: Roll once, then add the maximum possible damage for the damage die. (E.g. If you rolled a critical hit for your longsword attack, your damage will be 1d8 + 8 + your modifier.) Concentration Checks: If you roll a natural 20 on a concentration check, you enter a state of "Perfect Focus." For the rest of this combat, damage can no longer force you to make concentration saves for that specific spell. Your concentration will only end if the spell’s duration expires, you cast another concentration spell, or you are incapacitated. Expanded Crafting Rules: We'll be using Kibbles' Crafting System for blacksmithing, alchemy, enchanting, and more. Details are available in Discord.

How Kat creates a safe table
A link to our Lines and Veils document is available in the #🏁start-here channel on Discord. If you have any lines or veils you'd like to add to your game, DM me. No need to explain anything at all. I will anonymously add them to the list for our game to ensure the whole group is on the same page—no questions asked. We will also use X-Cards. If a scene or description makes you uncomfortable, simply type "X" in the text chat or say "Pause." We will immediately stop, skip the scene, or adjust the narrative—no questions asked and no explanation needed. You may DM me the X if you prefer. I’m very good at changing gears on a dime, and we’ll move on immediately.
