About the adventure
A group of desperate strangers sign up as test subjects for VivaLife’s brand new Preservation Pod Technology. Going into cryosleep for thirty years and waking up rich sounded like it would solve a lot of their problems. But when they wake up, everything is different than they were told to expect. Many questions arise and none have easy answers. Can they trust their "pod mates"? What about the notes in their own handwriting? Or the voice memos they don’t remember recording? The story begins with a memory of the players’ characters gathered in VivaLife's pristine laboratory. A number of preservation pods are lined up against the back wall. Gathered with them is the lead researcher for the preservation pod project. They will give each player a waiver filled with medical and legal jargon and a contract that pays them 100 times what they could expect to earn in a lifetime, plus interest, upon waking up after 30 years of cryosleep. After the characters sign the waiver and the contract, they may enter the pods and be preserved. This is a one-shot adventure featuring themes of paranoia, mistrust, psychological horror, and a bit of body horror. Content Warnings: Body Horror, Paranoia, Mind Alteration, Memory Alteration, Infectious Disease, Mutilation, Suicide, Loss of Bodily Autonomy, Creepy Crawlies. All artwork is used with permission of its creator, Withering Crown. I will only allow player-versus-player actions or violence if every player at the table consents in the moment. We will use Owlbear Rodeo (no account needed, only a web browser) as a virtual table top with a hand-drawn map and tokens created by the adventure's author, Withering Crown. I will provide ambient music to set the mood in our Discord voice/video channel. We will use Mothershipcompanion.com for character sheets. All of the Mothership one-shots that I run in February will be configured to donate funds to The Okra Project via Start Playing Game's fundraising feature. The Okra Project 2026 Charity Event will receive 100% of the booking, and any Custom Payments/Tips for this game.

About me
My name is Dominic (aka Old Scratch). I love to introduce people to role playing and to game systems they haven't played before! While I have been playing and running games for many years, I played my first *online game* in 2025 and I've been hooked ever since. I'm amazed at how much fun I've had playing (yeah I not only run games but often times play a character) in a variety of game systems and with people all over the world. This is a fantastic platform for new and experienced players alike and I can't recommend it enough. 🌕🌖🌗🌘🌑🌒🌓🌔🌙 I donate my game fees to every charity fundraiser that Start Playing Games sponsors. I’m here because I love gaming and I want to create a safe and welcoming place for players of all ages, backgrounds and experience. If you buy a ticket to one of my games you can bring a friend for free (one time per friend) - just message me about this and I will add them through startplaying.games

Creating your character
If you have questions about building Mothership characters or are completely new to Mothership just message me and we will get you set up! Characters in Scientist, Teamsters and Marine classes are allowed for this game. I will allow Android class characters if you wish to play them as humans partially or extensively augmented with cybernetics. All standard class-based trauma response rules apply. Please build your characters in Mothershipcompanion.com (it's free) and export it to PDF and send it to me prior to the game. You will add your character sheet to the Mothershipcompanion.com online session during our game with a short code that I will provide at the time. 🛸You will need a free mothershipcompanion.com account to play this game. To sign up for the app/site you will need to first download the free app from the Apple and Google Play Stores to your phone. Once you've done that you can sign in through the website. 👽I recommend that you use this app to randomly generate a character or you can use it to build one yourself. 👾We will use mothershipcompanion.com to share character sheets and roll dice during our game. 📖Detailed character backstories are NOT needed for my one shots. At the start of the session, we will quickly establish the how and why of your group's adventure.

What Dominic brings to the table
All of my games are open to both brand new and experienced players. If you're "brand new" to gaming or just Mothership, connect with me in Discord well prior to the start of the game so that we can go over a few things! I can ensure you that I will work to make your first Mothership game enjoyable and fun! Also, if you purchased a ticket to this game, you can bring a friend (who has never played in one of my games before) for free! Just message me about that so I can add them and confirm their seat before the start of the game. They will need a SPG, Discord and Mothershipcompanion.com account as well. I will provide: 🗎 All required images and handouts for important or key concepts in the game. 🎶Ambient, space and sc-fi themed music in our Discord Game Chat (you control the music volume) We'll write the story together!

How Dominic creates a safe table
🦺Mothership is a gritty science-fiction horror game adjacent to the tone and feel of Ridley Scott's Alien franchise. It's not just about space monsters and can include subject matter which is difficult for many of us. But some subjects can prevent some of us from enjoying the game as much as we could otherwise. Let's avoid those! Please check the content warnings on this game listing. I have an open-door policy on discussion of any lines and veils prior and during the game that would allow you to better enjoy this session and can accommodate almost any request. Feel free to contact me about lines and veils at any time. The best place to discuss lines and veils is in Discord. ⚞ My lines: We will strictly omit all themes, topics, story, and plot points depicting sexual abuse, sexual assault, or harm to children. 🚫 I do not tolerate racism, homophobia, transphobia, sexism, or ableism at my table. 📷 I will have my webcam turned on during the game and will encourage anyone who feels comfortable to do the same. But enabling your webcam is not required. 🚽At the start of the session we will plan bio-breaks but can take them whenever they are needed. After the game we will debrief on the call and have a round of "stars and wishes". Everyone will have the opportunity to ⭐ Give a "star" by describing what they enjoyed most about the game, such as a cool moment, another player's role playing, a tense scene, a clever plan, or a particular ruling or description from the GM. Stars are affirmations and not critiques. 🎂 Express a "wish" by describing things they would like to see more of in the future, such as more investigation, more combat, more spotlight time for a character, a return to a certain plot thread, or a specific tone. Wishes are forward-looking and not complaints about past performances. One-on-one aftercare (debriefing in Discord) is always freely available upon request if needed!
