I had a great time learning the ropes of the Old Gods of Appalachia from Alex. He had great NPC's, and ran a very tight theatre of the mind campaign. Knowledgeable about the system and its rules, and supportive of roleplay and characters, his campaign was a good introduction to the OGOA system. You're bound to learn a lot and have a good time, too.
I got to play Craig's Learn to Play for Vaesen, and what an amazing time with a gifted gamemaster. The one-shot was a great introduction to the game and system, and Craig was a knowledgeable guide and game warden as we solved our supernatural mystery. Engaging and creative, the one shot we played served as a complete adventure in addition to teaching a group of Vaesen newbies the ropes!
When you sit down to Old Scratch's table to learn a new game, it feels like sitting at the table at your friends house, even if you don't know the other players. He's knowledgeable, witty, and inclusive - and makes sure that everyone's character gets a chance to shine. He's as invested in your characters coming to life as you are - and is able to adjust to even the wildest of ideas from the players. When playing a rule set the players aren't familiar with, he takes the time to explain how the rule works in addition to having them available in-chat. He knows a lot of systems, and that knowledge of mechanics keeps things moving. Willing to invest in longer scenes and savvy about combat motivations, there's a lot of great storytelling at Old Scratch's table - and even if you think you don't have a storyteller in you, Dom will help bring that side out and help your character to shine through. If you're looking for a place for you to grow as a player, sit at a table with strangers who treat each other as friends, discover a new system (or enjoy a beloved one) and have a lot of fun doing it, I can't recommend Old Scratch's games enough.
