About the adventure

Welcome to Paryllaxx. In a distant corner of the multiverse, there exists a world the size of a brown dwarf star. The geographical effects of its accelerated planetary rotation have caused the landmasses to twist into what appears from the heavens as a large, unending spiral. This has caused the oceans to follow suit and is the reason the entire oceanic flow has been named the Spyral Sea by those who travel it. It is also filled with secrets.... Up the Spyral, we set our gaze upon the isthmus of Aslia, stretching about 6200 miles across but only about 2400 miles wide. This land consists of five powers: the Kingdom of Malboke along the northern stretch, home to those dedicated to the Old Codes of chivalry and honor; the Harlisian Empire along the southern stretch, home to various barbaric factions constantly at odds with one another to claim the coveted title of the Blood Emperor; the Principality of Quatburia to the northeast, a newly-founded power having just seceded from Malboke in favor of fewer Codes and more freedom; the Chiplian League to the southeast, as barbaric and brutal as those from the Empire, but far more organized under the banner of a group of dragonborn called the Diamond Dogs; finally the Republic of Trexia, a more magically-advanced culture nestled between Malboke and the Empire. It is in Trexia we focus our attention, and the massive secret their government hides from the other powers on Aslia: It is from their land that a abnormal amount of mimics have escaped into the rest of the continent. Whether this was the work of a maladjusted wizard or a secret government project gone sideways, no one can (or will) say. What is known is that the threat of war between Trexia and the other powers is all too real should the secret of the mimics' origins reach the ears of the public. In an attempt to rectify the situation, the central government has established a secret service dedicated to the eradication of all mimics across all of Aslia...and to maintain the secrecy of this hunt. Referred to as the Bureau of Disenchantment, to be selected as a "Box Cutter," one who tracks down and "disenchants" rogue mimics, comes with great rewards...but it is a lonely existence. The Bureau only selects those with no families and no ties to society to be a Box Cutter, due to the secrecy that must be maintained. It is also a calculated risk, as an unsuccessful Box Cutter often finds themselves on the business end of a Recycling Squad. If you're lucky, you just get your memory modified. If you're not lucky...well, no loose ends, as they say. You are all members of a newly-formed group of fresh Box Cutters who are about to embark on your first assignment--which will also serve as your final exam. The success of this test will either make or break you as agents. Just never forget the official (unofficial) slogan of the Bureau: "Trust Absolutely Nothing."

About me

Everyone has a story in them. Let me help you find yours. It can be hard for those who want to play TTRPGs, but either can’t find a group or just don’t know how to get started. Let me make that easier for you by offering my services as a professional Game Master for whatever game system you’re interested in playing. Let’s build a story together, while leaving you the freedom to explore and enjoy the world you’re creating without being bogged down by rules and multiple plotlines to keep track of. I've been doing this for over 30 years and have garnered a reputation for being a little outside the box but--at the same time--being 100% inclusive. The goal is for everyone to have fun and for nobody to feel left out. Also, if you see me advertising a game with no players yet, and the scheduled day and time doesn't work, message me with a day and time that would work and I can possibly move it to that schedule. Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions!

Character creation

Creating your character

Character creation will take place during Session 0, but you are welcome to get a head start if you like. My basic guidelines are as follows: 1. Stats are determined by rolling 4d6 and dropping the lowest per stat. 2. Leveling up is milestone-based. 3. Encumbrance is enforced, but coin weight is ignored. 4. I allow all official content (including Unearthed Arcana), as well as most 3rd-party content with prior approval.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Players will need access to a mic, as well as both Discord and D&D Beyond.

What Nemesis Noir brings to the table

Apart from using Discord, I also have access to several sourcebooks, as well as a D&D Beyond subscription. I'll be using the 2024 rules for this campaign, but I do have a few house rules of my own that I will discuss with you as a group.

Homebrew rules

I have options for homebrew rules; we'll talk about them during Session Zero to see if the group wants to use them or not.
