About the adventure
The game is set in the little village of Phandalin. You're tasked with a simple job of delivering some goods with the promise of riches if you succeed. Should be easy, right? In this beginner-friendly module, we'll experience of healthy mixture of combat and exploration, with puzzles to solve and ancient caverns to explore. We'll encounter things from simple goblins trying to make a living to otherwordly entities that will seek to conquer the world. If you're curious about D&D and you've never played it before, come and join us! I love teaching new players and I will be happy to explain how the game works as we play. I'm sure you'll have a blast! If you've played D&D before and want to play with a friendly DM who will do his very best so you can have fun, this is the table for you!

About me
My name is Rui. Nice to meet you! I was born and raised in Portugal. Always had a passion for video games, especially RPG's. That experience of creating my own character and embarking on epic adventures always appealed to me greatly, fostered by my love for reading Fantasy books. A few years ago, I watched Stranger Things and began to consider playing D&D seriously for the first time. After that, I started watching Critical Role and other D&D Youtube channels (e.g. Dungeon Dudes, Pointy Hat) and fell in love with the game. I then decided to start playing. I joined a Discord Server called Altrole where I found a few groups to play with. But there was a problem: no one wanted to be the DM! So, I took it upon myself to learn how to DM. And, for the past 3 years, that's what I've been doing with friends in person. I have DM'd mostly published adventures and I have taken two groups through Lost Mines of Phandelver and a slightly modified version of Curse of Strahd. I like to think I did a good job! As a DM, my favourite thing is to tell a story where the players make meaningful and impactful choices that change the world around them. I love incorporating my players' backstory into the adventure itself, allowing the characters to grow not just in power but as people. With me, you'll have a beginner-friendly DM who will always seek to do what's best for the players. Also, I love to do voices so be ready for Scottish dwarves!

Creating your character
We will create fresh Level 1 characters together during our first session together (Session 0). As for the stats, I'm happy to let you roll for stats or to use the Standard Array. Whatever you prefer. We'll create our characters on D&D Beyond - I will share the content I have so you have access to my books. We will also use D&D Beyond to play.

What Rui Cadima brings to the table
Rule of Cool will rule at our table! This means that, if we have to bend the rules slightly so you can do something cool, that's what we're going to do! Within reason, of course! I love impersonating my NPC's and giving them voices so you can expect different voices (some silly, some serious) from me. I also love ambient music which matches what's happening in the story so you'll also get that! I like to give my players a bit of everything: combat, exploration, RP, etc. Depending on what the group prefers, I'll lean more into any of those. The important thing is that we're all having fun together! I also really love teaching new players about the game. So, with me, you'll always have a DM who's willing to be patient and slow down things to make sure everyone is one the same page and understanding what's going on.

How Rui Cadima creates a safe table
During our Session 0, I will give you a Lines and Veils document. This is so you can tell me anonymously what kind of content you're not okay with or you'd prefer to not go into in detail. During our sessions together, you'll be able to message me directly if you're struggling with anything that's happening and we'll be able to resolve it pretty quickly. I also like to follow-up with my players after each session, asking them for feedback and if they're enjoying the game. This will give you a chance to tell me if there's a problem with my style or the content that we're covering, thus ensuring that I can answer your needs and criticism.
