About the adventure

The frontier town of Phandalin is a place of opportunity, danger, and secrets waiting to be unearthed. Bandits stalk the roads, monsters lurk in the wilds, and whispers of a long‑lost mine filled with magic and treasure stir the hearts of adventurers. This is a story of humble beginnings that can grow into epic legends—where your choices shape not only your character’s fate, but the destiny of an entire region. This campaign is perfect for new players curious about Dungeons & Dragons as well as veterans looking for a classic adventure with fresh energy. I run games in a way that balances storytelling, roleplay, and action, making sure everyone has moments to shine. Whether you’re here to swing a sword, solve mysteries, or bring your character’s personality to life, you’ll find a place at the table. Expect a mix of exploration, combat, and roleplay: tense ambushes on lonely roads, political intrigue in a town on the edge of lawlessness, and the thrill of delving into forgotten caverns. I encourage creativity and collaboration, so wild ideas and bold choices are always welcome. Above all, this is a game about fun, teamwork, and adventure. Bring your character sheet, your imagination, and your voice to the table—we’ll handle the rest. Together, we’ll tell a story that feels like stepping into the pages of a fantasy novel, one session at a time.

About me

Hi! I'm Tomás an experienced Dungeon Master with over 2 years of experience in Dungeons & Dragons and other role-playing systems like FATE and Marca del Este. I’m passionate about creating immersive and engaging adventures tailored to players of all levels, whether they’re new to the game or seasoned veterans. I’m currently managing a podcast and YouTube channel called El Castillo del Liche, where I dive deep into the world of role-playing games and geek culture. In addition to running games, I specialize in creating custom homebrew content, dynamic NPCs, and memorable storylines that make every session unique. As a historian in training at the University of Seville, I bring a rich narrative background to my games, using real-world history and lore to enhance the storytelling. Whether it’s epic battles, deep roleplay, or thrilling mysteries, I’m here to provide unforgettable adventures. Looking forward to playing with you soon!

Character creation

Creating your character

Characters will be created before the first session using D&D Beyond, and players should share their sheets with me via link. We will use the 27‑point buy system for ability scores, and all characters will begin at Level 1. Allowed sources include the Player’s Handbook plus supplements such as Xanathar’s Guide to Everything, Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything, Mordenkainen Presents: Monsters of the Multiverse, Sword Coast Adventurer’s Guide, Fizban’s Treasury of Dragons, and Bigby Presents: Glory of the Giants. Other setting‑specific books, such as Eberron: Rising from the Last War or Strixhaven: Curriculum of Chaos, are not permitted. Creativity and collaboration are encouraged, but please keep builds within these guidelines to ensure a balanced and fun experience for everyone. If you are new to character creation, I will gladly walk you through the process step by step so you feel comfortable and ready to play.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Before the game begins, players should join my Discord server, which will be our main hub for communication and sessions. A working microphone is required to ensure smooth voice interaction during play. While not mandatory, having a Talespire account is highly recommended, as the game will be run using Talespire for enhanced visual immersion and tactical gameplay. That’s all you need—simple setup, ready for adventure.

What Tomix brings to the table

As your Dungeon Master, I aim to create an immersive and enjoyable experience where every player feels engaged. I use ambient background music to set the mood, whether it’s the tension of a looming battle or the calm of a quiet tavern. My combat style is generally straightforward but with a touch of tactical depth, giving space for clever positioning and teamwork without slowing down the pace of the game. When it comes to rules, I follow them closely and consistently to ensure fairness and clarity at the table. That said, I also believe in the Rule of Cool—if a player comes up with something creative, cinematic, and fun, I’ll bend the rules when it enhances the story and everyone’s enjoyment. Above all, I provide a space where collaboration, creativity, and storytelling come first. Expect a balanced mix of roleplay, exploration, and combat, with plenty of opportunities for your characters to shine and shape the adventure together.

Safety

How Tomix creates a safe table

Player safety and comfort are always a priority at my table. Before the campaign begins, we will have a Session 0 to go over expectations, character creation, and table etiquette. During this session, I will also share a simple Lines and Veils document so players can mark any topics they’d prefer to avoid or handle off‑screen. I use X, N, and O cards in digital form (through chat or quick messages) so players can signal in real time if something makes them uncomfortable, if they’d like to pause, or if they’re especially enjoying a moment. These tools ensure that everyone feels heard and respected without interrupting the flow of the game. After each session, I check in briefly with players for aftercare, giving space to share highlights, concerns, or adjustments for next time. My goal is to create a welcoming environment where everyone can enjoy the adventure, knowing that their boundaries are respected and their fun is the priority.
