About the adventure

For over a century, two kingdoms have been locked in a brutal, unending war. What began as cavalry charges and spear lines has escalated into devastating clashes of Warframes — titanic mechanomagical machines unearthed from ancient ruins and armed with unfathomable power. Yet this war is only the surface. From the shadows, a hidden empire manipulates the conflict, sending advisors and priests who murmur honeyed words into ambitious ears. Rival factions maneuver in secrecy: nobles who cling to their thrones and power, revolutionaries who seek to overturn them, and enigmatic figures with plans to reshape history. Your journey begins far from the capitals and the front lines. But soon, fire and ruin will force you onto the stage of history. First as wanderers, then as fugitives, and finally as active participants in a great game that will decide the fate of the world. What to Expect Wartime intrigue: espionage, shifting alliances, betrayals, and conspiracies. Adventuring across nations: deserts, forests, frozen wastes, and forgotten ruins. Meet strange people, unravel secret mysteries, and uncover the point behind this forever war. Mecha warfare: recover, pilot, and customize your own Warframe under familiar 5E rules. Hard choices: no faction is pure, and none has no blood on its hands. Splashes of silliness: encounters with weird little guys, Niobium Chef competitions, a world-spanning fraternity of dudebros, and plenty of animalpeople including goblinsharks. This is a campaign of politics, war, and hidden powers, where everyone must balance their survival against the ambitions of kings, rebels, and would-be gods....while you adventurers are busy boozing and schmoozing their way to success, or at least failing forward as best they can.

Character creation

Creating your character

Players roll for their stats using the usual 4d6 drop the lowest method. Character options may be chosen from the PHB, XGE, and TCE. Well-built and optimized characters are fine, as are characters that are fun oddball concepts (say, a cocky dragonborn wannabe himbo who swaggers around as if already the ancient dragon on campus). Players who are actively looking to min-max or powergame should perhaps find another campaign. Players are free to create and track their characters on any platform they wish, but the heavily homebrewed nature of Warframe combat may make using platforms like D&DB arduous.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

Players will need access to a computer with a good-quality mic or headset, since play will be facilitated using voice chat on Discord. There will be a dedicated server that players join that also provides a place to track campaign notes and plot coupons, or to just hang out and discuss the campaign and its direction. Links to the Owlbear Rodeo VTT and Syrinscape music/ambiance will be provided as well; players just need to follow the link to access them through their web browser. Neither requires the creation of an account

What F H brings to the table

I have nearly a quarter-century of running tabletop games and have been homebrewing content from the very start, always looking to push the limits of games by designing content that adapts the rules in a fair, flexible, and fun way. The rules are guardrails, not straightjackets, and finding inventive solutions to problems in ways not premised on that +7 bonus you have on your character sheet is not only preferred but encouraged! Worldbuilding, lore, and history always matter, but I make sure to drip-feed revelations and facts as players' characters uncover them. Instead of massive lore dumps and railroading players from one plot set piece to the next, players explore and learn about the setting and plot in ways that are relevant to THEIR interests and choices. That said, the party is not the only actor in the game world, and those actors will rationally attempt achieving their own goals as time passes, so getting distracted from important plot threads may come back to bite the party if they procrastinate or fail to address their rivals.

Homebrew rules

The entire Warframe system and how they operate in combat is homebrewed but recognizable to anyone familiar with 5E combat mechanics and stat blocks Each character has a potion slot from which they drink any one potion as a bonus action, once per encounter. Otherwise, using a potion is always an action Each time a player gets healed from 0 hit points, they take a level of exhaustion Initiative in combat is fluid and rolled for each side at the start of each round. The players decide who acts in what order on a given round so turn order is not locked in, allowing for different tactics or changes in battlefield proirity based on the party's objectives

Safety

How F H creates a safe table

Discussion of the campaign's major themes and content will occur during Session 0 so players can make informed decisions on if they're comfortable participating, and they are welcome to bring up issues they have with any of it as well as find compromises or solutions (veiling all instances of a specific type of content, for instance). If for some reason players feel uncomfortable about something that arises during play, they can always step away, bring it up, or message me privately with their concerns, which I can address immediately or during a post-session debriefing.
