Severed: A Memory-Horror Adventure Inspired by Severance
You wake up at work. You don’t remember taking the job. Why are your memories missing—and why does the boss keep smiling?
About the adventure
“Work is a refuge. Forgetting is a mercy.” — Circle of Synapse Employee Handbook, v4.7 This is Severed — a one-shot D&D adventure inspired by the haunting corporate horror of the TV show Severance. Players take on the role of investigators hired to retrieve a man’s stolen memories. But the deeper they go, the weirder this becomes… and the more they begin to question why they're here in the first place. What to Expect Set in a surreal facility hidden behind a rather plain looking steel door in a city alley, this 3–4 hour session blends psychological horror, mystery, and dark satire. Players will explore a complex full of eerie dungeon office aesthetics, memory manipulation, and cultish bureaucracy. Think The Backrooms meets Memento, but with swords and sorcery. Highlights: • A modular, one-shot design perfect for players who enjoy immersive mystery and weird fiction. • Light combat with meaningful consequences, plus optional stealth and social options. • Memory loss mechanics that challenge how players interact with the world and each other. • A slow-burn unraveling of identity and intent. • A mystery that could have you questioning who is really the villain here. This adventure was originally called "Forget Me Not" and written by Kelly from Power Word Spill

Meet the Game Master
About me
Hello! My name is David (Evil Penguin). I've been playing D&D since 1985 with the original red box, i.e. I'm old. I went to college for creative writing. Then got a job in the film industry. So, I've pretty much built my whole life around the creative pursuits. Which makes me well suited for telling stories... my sessions that I have vary in type, but I try to mix elements of the big three: role-playing, exploration, and combat. Players will have an opportunity to at each of these at various times throughout a game. My general philosophy is that I, as a DM, have more fun when my players are having fun. Therefore, I try my best to give everyone at the table a chance to be the hero/anti-hero. Giving everyone a chance to shine... not just the OP fighter who min/maxed to be a killing machine... but also to the bard who just doesn't do that much in combat because their too busy talking their way out of most potentially hostile encounters. If you really want to get a sense of my GMing style, you can check out my youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@EvilPenguinRPG New players to experienced are welcomed. I believe in a diverse, LGBTQ+ friendly, and INCLUSIVE table. If you are a nazi, racist, homophobe, transphobe, or any other sort of bigot, please stay away from my table. I have a zero tolerance policy for that at my table. Any of that and you will be dropped immediately. If you have to ask whether this statement is about you, it is.

Knows the Rules
Penguin offered a one-shot for three folks, only two of which showed up. He still ran the session which I greatly appreciated. He had to juggle both ends of the spectrum regarding player experience with the rules system. I was an utter noob. My fellow gamer knew her rules quite well. I had a great time. The encounters felt challenging yet balanced. The rules were explained well. The scene was described well. NPCs were well fleshed out. I'll be looking into the various campaign offerings from this DM.
Character creation
Creating your character
You can discuss with me via discord your character creation questions that you might have, any time. Character creation will happen on Roll20.net and that's where you'll keep up with your character sheet. Some pre-generated characters will be available if you'd rather just get into it. This adventure is for 3rd level characters. Use the 4xd6 (drop lowest) method to determine ability scores. If you roll below the standard array of 27 total, you can choose to use the standard array instead. All races and classes that exist in WOTC published core rule books are available to choose from.
