The Crooked Moon: The Ghostlight Express
All aboard the Ghostlight Express en route to Druskenvald, in the haunting oneshot from The Crooked Moon.
About the adventure
You find yourselves standing on the platform of a ghostly train station, being reborn after y'all kicked the bucket, awaiting what's next. The solemn notes of a lone fiddle followed by the bellowing sound of a train whistle means you possess a one-way ticket into the unknown. Those sounds herald the arrival of the Ghostlight Express. It only stills and quiets for a transient moment before it lurches forward once more into its eternal voyage between life and death, so hop aboard. This adventure is for souls of 2nd level, and will reach 3rd level before finale. The Crooked Moon, a folk horror setting, features new races, such as the scarecrow-like Harvestborn, or the imp-like Ashborn. Feel free to try new subclasses such as the College of Whistles Bard or a Druid part of the Circle of the Old Ways.

Sets the Mood
Gabrielle is flexible in allowing players to veer off intended paths and explore the landscapes of her campaigns. She also convincingly portrays unnamed non-player characters with personalities and defined goals, which helps to ground her combat scenes as a "clash of wills" as much as they are mechanical battles.
Deryn runs an incredibly fun game, knowing when to augment the adventures with more of a challenge, and when to allow players to dictate their path through critical decisions or cunning plans. She is sensitive towards all the needs of the players, and builds a great atmosphere for the game. Really great!
After taking a long break from D&D, I was apprehensive to go back into a campaign with complete strangers. I still remembering working with Deryn before the first session to ease some of my anxieties (even if they didn't know it). From then, its been incredible working and playing alongside such a wonderful DM. I don't think I truly embodied my character until a recent session in the campaign. It was funny and hilarious and it felt like I finally let go of my anxieties. They facilitated all of it so well. This is an impeccable DM willing to go the extra mile to build your character and getting their loose ends tied up thematically and reasonably. I'd come back and play a long-term campaign with them anytime.
Character creation
Creating your character
On D&D Beyond before the session starts, characters will be created at level 2, though be prepared to reach level 3 before the oneshot ends. Standard array or point buy will be used for ability scores, and characters will start with standard equipment. All official races and subclasses are allowed, though players are strongly encouraged to pick one of the races from the Crooked Moon, which uses the 2024 rules.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Players should have a D&D Beyond, Roll20, and Discord Account. I will provide a link for the shared D&D Beyond campaign.
What Deryn brings to the table
I utilize character voice, ambient music, and illustrated maps to add to this oneshot's horror setting. I tend to follow to Rules and Written, but I love rewarding players for creativity! Players can expect a lot of exploration and taking to unique NPCs in the first half of the oneshot, while the latter half will feature an intense, tactical boss battle.
Homebrew rules
Players themselves can drink a healing potion as a bonus action, but feeding it to another person takes an action.
