About Deryn
Hey y'all! I'm excited to GM amazing adventures with you! I've been loving RPGs ever since I was in high school, and I've been more active than ever in my D&D. Like many others, I'm a huge Critter. I'm also passionate about other RPG systems like Vampire: The Masquerade and Avtar Legends What you need to know about my games is that I always try to make sure my characters are having fun and to make sure that they are comfortable. I populate my games with diverse NPCs and love worldbuilding fantastic settings for everyone to play in. I also make sure to make sure my players have a healthy challenge. Other hobbies I have include hiking, traveling, creating RPG art, and listening to music. Bidet, friends!

How Deryn runs games
I am pretty balanced in all three pillars of D&D. I love wilderness travel (I make sure to give rangers all the love they deserve) and I love running fun combat scenarios, although I don't worry about number crunching too much. Music is also important to set the mood for any session. I also make sure to give my players a challenge, though making sure everyone has fun is the most important. Finally, I do character voices, although to be honest than can be a little cringe lol.

I prep by
Outlining potential scenes, secrets, and clues that the characters are likely to come across. I also set up illustrated maps on roll20, complete with dynamic lightning! Can't forget the monsters as well!
Deryn's ideal table
I enjoy a very chill vibe at the table. We're not here simply to win, but we're here to have fun and tell a memorable story. I tend to lean Rules as Written to keep the game balanced, but I will reward creativity. Optimizing, but not Power Gaming is ideal for character builds. I try my best to embody a Matt-Mercer style of dming: full of lore, story, and fun, but not afraid to give players a deadly challenge once in a while.

Try to steal the spotlight from another character when it's obviously that character's moment. Players unwilling to fail forward are also a red flag.
My perfect party mix is
A party where everyone's build's compliments each other and fits perfectly into the setting. But most importantly, a party that's willing to work together and have a ton of fun!
