Gabrielle is flexible in allowing players to veer off intended paths and explore the landscapes of her campaigns. She also convincingly portrays unnamed non-player characters with personalities and defined goals, which helps to ground her combat scenes as a "clash of wills" as much as they are mechanical battles.
