About the adventure

Many years ago, a couple named Silas and Delilah Briarwood and their entourage took over the city of Whitestone and ruled through fear for five years. Lady Delilah was a necromancer and managed to rise an entire army of undead to defend their territory, even attacked the nearby stone giant forge to increase their numbers. By now the Briardwood's are dead and gone, along with their allies, and the city thrives under the leadership of Lady Cassandra de Rolo and the council. However, some of the undead escaped, now roaming in the wilderness and slowly fading from people's attention. For the past few weeks, the citizens of Syngorn have received chilling news from merchants, hunters and travelers entering the city. An excess of partial animal carcasses at random places. The sounds of rolling thunder with no storm clouds in the sky. Trees that stood as tall as forty feet are now broken and torn. Some swear that they have spotted footprints the size of cows and smelled the unmistakable stench of death. While this dense greenwood is famous for its enchanted nature, this is most unusual and Syngorn officials have now requested help: a party must hunt down these undead monsters before anything worse happens.

About me

My name is Anna and I'm a writer, artist and dungeon master. I have written stories ever since I learned how to spell, because it's something that brings me great joy. I grew up reading fantasy books, historical fiction and romance novels. I have played D&D for nearly a decade, mostly 5th edition and some 3.5. When my friend Aaron helped me create my first character, I fell in love with the roleplaying aspect, and the power of imagination and storytelling between friends. What I really enjoy about the game is that I get to play pretend with friends and together we tell a story and we also get to be silly. I am currently running a campaign that I started in 2020, which takes place in Wildemount (a continent in Matt Mercer's world of Exandria), and there are 4-5 players (one person's schedule keeps them preoccupied from time to time, and sometimes their character goes on a solo mission). I have also run several one-shots and short campaigns. There was one campaign that stemmed from a one-shot and we actually took turns GMing in that group, which made for a chaotic story. Finally I also ran a short Vampire the Masquerade campaign a couple years ago.

Anna is most of all a thoughtful and compassionate DM. She takes her time to craft her stories no detail is unimportant. She will always check in with her players as their enjoyment and comfort is most important. She puts her players first in the best way. But in a way that always makes the story better in the end. Did I mention she's a master story teller too? She's the whole package. 🔥 10/10

I've been playing at Anna's table in a private home game for nearly 5 years. In that time I've been in awe at the depth and breadth of her planning and ability to weave seemingly unrelated plot threads into a gorgeous (and often terrifying) tapestry. As a DM myself, I've felt the need to really level up my game after playing with her. I'm absolutely glad that she's decided to come onto SPG and share her DMing skills with a wider audience. You will not regret playing at her table!

Character creation
Creating your character

You need to create a level 9 character on DnD Beyond before the session. Please refer to 2014 rules, not 2024. -Any race and any class are allowed, except gunslinger. -You are welcome to roll your stats or go with the standard array. -If you roll your HP, you can reroll ones. -Equipment: You will have the amount of money that your class gets, plus two common or uncommon items and one rare magical item. -Backstory: No need to go in-depth, but at least have a motivation and a place of origin. Please provide the link to your character sheet and a short paragraph about your character no later than an hour before the session begins. If you have any questions at all, you can reach out to me.

What to expect
Preparing for the session

You need an account on DnD Beyond and one on Discord. You need to join my Discord server Violet Aasimar Games: https://discord.gg/nr8X4HMKn9

What Anna brings to the table

I embrace the Rule of Cool, because after all, this is a game. I like to play ambient music, using Kenku on Discord. That way, the players don't have to worry about having a music app or account. They can easily listen along and control the volume, even turn it off on their end if they want to. This game will involve a fair amount of mystery, and if the party does well, they will find their quarry... and answers and maybe more questions. I expect there will be one epic fight as well. I can't do voices, but I do my best to embody my NPCs through tone and body language.

Homebrew rules

* Drinking a potion as a bonus action. * If you want to pull or drag someone during combat without using an action, you can sacrifice your movement. You would move at half-speed. * Alignments are important, but they are circumstantial in my games. For example, if your character is Chaotic Neutral and wanted to attune to a weapon that can only be wielded by someone with the Good alignment, it wouldn't work. * You can have more than one DM-granted point of inspiration.

Safety
How Anna creates a safe table

Before the game: * We will use Lines and Veils to set up a list of boundaries. If a player has any off-limit topics, such as gore, I will make adjustments in my storytelling. During the game: * Half-way or about half-way through the game, we will take a 10-minute break (longer if needed). It's an opportunity to use the bathroom, stretch, get water, eat something, etc. After the game: * We will use Stars & Wishes to talk about what went well, what we enjoyed, and what we would like to see in the future.
