About Anna
My name is Anna and I'm a writer, artist and dungeon master. I have written stories ever since I learned how to spell, because it's something that brings me great joy. I grew up reading fantasy books, historical fiction and romance novels. I have played D&D for nearly a decade, mostly 5th edition and some 3.5. When my friend Aaron helped me create my first character, I fell in love with the roleplaying aspect, and the power of imagination and storytelling between friends. What I really enjoy about the game is that I get to play pretend with friends and together we tell a story and we also get to be silly. I am currently running a campaign that I started in 2020, which takes place in Wildemount (a continent in Matt Mercer's world of Exandria), and there are 4-5 players (one person's schedule keeps them preoccupied from time to time, and sometimes their character goes on a solo mission). I have also run several one-shots and short campaigns. There was one campaign that stemmed from a one-shot and we actually took turns GMing in that group, which made for a chaotic story. Finally I also ran a short Vampire the Masquerade campaign a couple years ago.

I got started GMing...
To communally tell stories with other D&D players and basically play pretend. I love fantasy and the idea of going on a magical adventure, slaying monsters, saving folks, solving mysteries, and so forth. I enjoy creating problems and seeing how people solve them.
My favorite shows/movies are
Favorite show: Game of Thrones (well, the first four seasons), Downton Abbey and Dimension 20. Movies: Pride & Prejudice, Lord of the Rings trilogy, and Rogue One.
The three words my players would use to describe me are...
Fearless, creative and quaint.
How Anna runs games
I love the drama of Dungeons & Dragons! My games tend to be 2/3 roleplaying, which includes investigating mysteries, political intrigue, the good, the bad and the ugly of relationships, and silliness and slices of life. One third is combat, and one thing I like to do is add high stakes or non-fighting challenges to the combat (although, not every time). I believe in the rule of cool, so if the player wants to do something different, I will let them try and see what the dice say.

My favorite trope is...
The broody, stoic character and the light-hearted, optimistic character teaming up to go on a quest. I love it, because this trope shows the strength of compassion, team-work and compromise. At the end of the story, both characters have learned something and evolved.
My games focus on...
The characters, the story and what my players want to get out of the game. I want everyone to enjoy themselves and feel comfortable to propose a ridiculous plan or act extremely silly... or extremely noble. Narratively, I lean towards comedic one-shots, ancient mysteries or Game of Thrones fantasy.
Rules are...
To be followed as long as they make sense and don't hinder the fun. I like to refer to the Rule of Cool more than anything. If you're running a combat heavy game, it makes sense to be more strict. But since I run more roleplay-oriented games, I let my players do pretty much anything.
Anna 's ideal table
If you sit down at my table, expect a quaint story with well-rounded NPCs in a living, evolving world. I have run your traditional "a dragon attacked our town" quest as well as one-shots with political intrigue, gothic horror, romance and down-to-earth silliness (i.e. spirits of the forest committed vandalism when a carnival set up in their home). My ideal player enjoys a good story and exploring the world I present to them, and they aren't in a hurry to smash things with their maul. They are compassionate and creative players who take Nat 1's like a champ and aren't scared to make outlandish requests of the GM. The general vibe at my table is chill and cozy (yes, even when there are vampires around).

If you're into ___, you're going to love my table
romance, murder mysteries and monsters
I love it when a player
Surprises me! Both in and out of combat. If your character approaches and solves a problem in an usual way that falls in line of your character's personality, that's just *chef's kiss.*
I think it's a red flag when players...
Don't read the room and become the main character or behave in ways to make others uncomfortable, just because "that's what their character would do". I don't write one-shots so that certain people can live out their power fantasies.
