About the adventure
It is the early 20th century and a great evil rising. Your characters start out as people who are not exceptionally different from others of your time, some might be academics, or war veterans, bakers, factory workers, or janitors, but you each get pulled into a series of increasingly odd events which will eventually launch you into a campaign to save the entire world. Call of Cthulhu is the original role playing game of cosmic horror by Chaosium, Inc. This campaign will begin with a couple of beginners’ mysteries before launching into the Masks of Nyarlathotep campaign, a perilous adventure to thwart a dark god. About me
I have been running games since I was ten years old and have always enjoyed stories of hijinks and high adventure as well as the occasional creepy crawl into the shadowy abyss. I enjoy a wide variety of games and love to have a table filled with laughter. Creating your character
During session 0, the party will make characters together, so you don’t need to worry about your experience level, even brand-new players will get through the process with a minimum of fuss. If you join after session 0, you can take up a pre-generated character, or you can sign on a little early and make a character with the GM.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You will need either a PC or Mac compatible PC with broadband internet access and electricity to play in this game, a mouse with left and right buttons, as well as a third button and mouse wheel is optimal for online use of Foundry VTT. You will need a Discord account to access the pregame chat, there is no other software to install because Foundry VTT and Syrinscape play through your browser and there are no other accounts you need to sign into. If you intend to speak in the voice channel on Discord, you should have a headset with a microphone. You will be required to set up a push-to-talk button [no one wants to hear you clip your toenails next to your microphone when it’s not your turn], you are, however, free to communicate to the group using text only in Discord, but you will then need speakers to hear their chat and the game sounds. Special text-only sessions are available for the hearing impaired. Please contact me if you’d like to schedule one. Bringing a friend or two would help ensure we don’t need to recruit additional players. While text-only is actually my preferred method of play, it does seem difficult to organize those games. Instructions for setting up the push-to-talk button and installing all the needed software are available on my Discord channel (#getting-started), to which you will be supplied a link when you join. You could read the quick start rules to get ready for your adventures (available for free at https://tinyurl.com/yc5umnxh) or you are free to come in without any homework and learn as you play.

I provide the ruleset and scenario and my license for the virtual table top allows you to play through a modern browser. We will be using Syrinscape sounds, which will come through your browser window automatically.

How Cai the GM creates a safe table
The cosmic horror presented in the campaign throws the player characters into a horror movie that is very dangerous and filled with high stakes moments, but most of these moments are not ‘combat’ in the sense of most role-playing games, but instead, situations which must be overcome before time limits run out. The campaign will give players an opportunity to flex both their problem solving abilities and the role play as the types of obstacles in your way span all the realms of human endeavor.
