About the adventure
"Welcome, Adventurer! The kingdom has been beset by an evil mage and...the fair princess? While things seem bleak, there is still hope. You are that hope, for in the fortress of the evil mage lies the keys to defeating him, and the princess: The Gem of Ages and a fiery dragon! Will you brave the dangers of the journey to the fortress and overcome the perils within so that the kingdom and the day may be saved?" Yes, this campaign is designed to have a touch of humor infused with the cliched stereotypical adventure. Yes, this campaign uses an older edition of the game. While this is a campaign, it is designed to be a fairly short campaign of 3-5 sessions maximum. This will be run in a Theater of the Mind style. Any listed triggers are potential and not guaranteed to be present.

Meet the Game Master
About me
I have been a player and game master for several games for over 30 years. I have a home-brew background as well as a published TTRPG background. I tend to stick with older games, as I am often not fond of the newer versions. My style is partially scripted and partially off-the-cuff. I tend to be tough, but I always try to be fair. I'm not perfect and I do make mistakes. If I make one, let me know and I will rectify it. I have been know to chuck rules I don't like, or at least modify them (and make you know about them up front!) so that they are less unfavorable. I want my players to feel challenged, but still have fun. I prefer role-playing and not roll-playing. I am cool with new players and veterans. I stick to older editions of multiple games mainly because I actually prefer them over the newer editions as opposed to being too cheap to upgrade. That said, I am not above running a game in an edition I am not fond of, but I tend to charge more for it as the trade off.

Been playing an ongoing Vampire the Masquerade campaign with JP for the last few months now. He’s exceedingly knowledgeable about both the rules and lore of the universe and its been an absolute pleasure chatting with him about the various versions of the game, as well as learning new World of Darkness lore I’d never heard before! 💕 Being both extremely patient and a fantastic Storyteller, JP’s always willing to assist you with character creation and provide any explanations you may require regarding gameplay. In my case, he was exceedingly helpful when I was having trouble filling gaps in my character’s background - due to a few last minute alterations! We ended up spending a few hours discussing the ideas I had for building her whilst simultaneously geeking out over our favorite, and least favorite, aspects of V20 vs V5. 🧛♀️ Whether you’re already a long time Vampire the Masquerade fan, or just a curious outsider, looking to dip your toes into the genera, I’d highly recommend hanging out with us in either Caledonia, or Costa Linda, sometime! 😉✌️
I'm only 2 sessions into playing with JP as VtM Game master, and I'm having a good time so far. He's got a giant stable of NPC characters running around in the city, which is pretty cool. I cant wait to see what other shenanigans we end up getting into. Update to my Review. I've left my initial 2 session above. I've now been gaming Vampire with JP for almost 10 months now, and the past 6 I've been playing weekly. I'm playing both a Camarilla & a Sabbat game with him, and am still having a huge amount of fun. I find it super interesting that all of his vampire Venues live in the same world, and My Cam Character is on the hunt currently for another Sabbat Players sire. The continuity between the venues is really neat. He still has a giant roster of NPCs, and lots of different things going on. Sometimes a plotline catches our interest and we are off to the races, sometimes we are in different about a plot, and it's left on the vine to wither. We very much have the ability to choose which direction we are going. I have to 100% re-iterate JP's commentary on role playing vs. roll playing. While dice are rolled, the emphasis in these games is the role play, what you want to do, who you talk to, what is said to who. The Depth of politicking, and scheming available is first class. If you are looking to roll a ton of dice to thump heads, and not much else you may want to look elsewhere.
The Storyteller is very well versed in the rules and is amazing in his story and planning of the night games. he lets each player blossom and be their character. he does not Stifel where the players want to go. He is also great about allowing the players also be social if the mood arises, but is also great about herding the cats. Over all a great experience. I have even inquired if he might run a different game and system.
Character creation
Creating your character
I prefer to have all characters created by the start of the first session. Players are to build a 4-6 level character using only the races and classes found in the main Player's Handbook. That means: Humans, Elves, Dwarves, Half-Elves, Gnomes, Halflings. Fighter, Paladin, Ranger, Mage, Cleric, Druid, Thief, Bard. This is a "classic" and "stereotypical" adventure, so keeping to the basic races and classes is part of the schtick. I would prefer players not to be dual or multi-classed. Please note, this is a basic 2nd edition game. Players are NOT to use the Skills and Powers rules or system. Players are to use the 4d6 drop the lowest and assign as you wish method for determining their stats, keeping class minimum requirements in mind.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Players will need a microphone for communication with the DM and other players. Players will also need dice or a dice roller. If you want to use your webcam you may, but it isn't a requirement. Again, I am willing to teach the rules upon request.
What JP McClendon brings to the table
I can provide a variety of character sheets upon request. I also have all of the applicable books for this particular campaign. I am also more than willing to teach the rules of this edition to players not already familiar with them. I am also more than happy to assist in the character creation process. This uses a Theater of the Mind style. I tend to uses voices for the various NPCs that the party encounters rather than just using my own voice. I will primarily be sticking to the actual rules for this campaign, but I will also be doing away with some rules and bits just for the sake of ease of play. The key is to have fun while remaining within the parameters of what this edition of the game uses. This is a rarity for me, as I usually employ numerous house rules. Players will receive a Discord link to the game's server once they have signed up and ready to do character creation.

Virtually all listed triggers are potential. Just because a posted trigger is shown on the list does not a guarantee that it will ever actually come up, but the fact that it is possible that it might is why I have listed it. Obviously, my intention is never to upset, offend, or trigger anyone, either on purpose or accidental. I request that should something ever come up, that a player let it be known on the spot rather than waiting to tell me after a session. A player's comfort with the game is a priority to me.
