Blades in the Dark [Play-by-Post] (Beginners Welcome!)
You and your fledgling crew must thrive amidst rival gangs, powerful nobles, vengeful ghosts, the Bluecoats, and the call of your own vices.
About the adventure
💡Friendly to beginners of both Blades in the Dark and Play-by-Post! 🏰Seek your fortune in the streets of an industrial-fantasy city! 🚀Lightning-fast mechanics remove the typical slog of most systems! ⚔️Scoundrels, assassins, syndicates, and the supernatural! -- Official "Blades in the Dark" Description: "[In] Blades in the Dark [you are] a crew of daring scoundrels seeking their fortunes on the haunted streets of an industrial-fantasy city. There are heists, chases, occult mysteries, dangerous bargains, bloody skirmishes, and, above all, riches to be had—if you’re bold enough to seize them. You and your fledgling crew must thrive amidst the threats of rival gangs, powerful noble families, vengeful ghosts, the Bluecoats of the city watch, and the siren song of your scoundrel’s own vices. Will you rise to power in the criminal underworld? What are you willing to do to get to the top?" -- New to Play-by-Post? No problem! It is a low-stress, highly-rewarding format and I'll help you every step of the way. [Play-by-Post] Do you want to join a campaign but your availability prevents you from committing regularly? Does engaging at your own pace throughout the week without the pressure of the moment and with access to live chats with your Dungeon Master sound appealing? Well you're in the right place! The Play-by-Post (PbP) format is nearly as old as D&D and is a rewarding way to engage in this fantastic pastime. While it is true that the comradery of the kitchen table is lost in PbP, you gain the ability to plan without pressure, to refine your roleplay, to research your actions. And many see Play-by-Post as more immersive than live games, that the Theater-of-the-Mind is more easily engaged without the distractions of half-decent accents, the bell of midnight quickly approaching, and the smell of aging nachos. *Note: This adventure is Play-by-Post and will be conducted throughout the week at your pace. While live check-ins with me are available, the lion's share of the adventure will be conducted in Rolegate and in Discord channels where we will also store concept art, maps, a compendium of magic items, a room for chit chat, and more. Please send me a message if you'd like to know more.

About me
I will set the stage for you to tell your character's tale. Storytelling is at the heart of everything I do, from creative writing to teaching literature to myths and legends retellings around the campfire. Good stories are all about tension and release, about stakes. Tabletop Roleplaying Games are another manifestation of that but are unique in one way: we create stories together. We become the heroes we have always dreamed of. I’ve been a professional Gamemaster for over three years and a non-pro GM for far longer. I’ve clocked over 1000 hours of digital GMing (not to mention the years of PbP and in-person) and have introduced over 200 new players to the past-time. I have run and still run campaigns professionally for teenagers on Outschool.com where I have nearly 150 five-star reviews.

GM Grant is one of the best DMs I’ve played with. The story telling is great and he makes excellent use of the NPCs involved in the story. He does a great job helping you develop your character from the start, and incorporates backstories into the campaign nicely. This has been a difficult season in my life and Grant was flexible with me when I needed to take a break for a few weeks before jumping back in. I very much appreciate being part of his campaign and the awesome group I get to journey with.
Grant is a wonderful GM. He is a fantastic wordsmith and keeps great rhythm and pacing with the story. He is great at allowing creative solutions whilst keeping a balance in rulings —being decisive and fun. Player Characters are woven into the story, and everyone truly feels like the protagonists in the world. Be it Blades in the Dark, Forbidden Lands, 5e, or other, I'd highly recommend Grant for your next GM!
Grant has exceptional storytelling, engaging descriptions, and the ability to seamlessly integrate player actions into the narrative. He masterfully crafts compelling NPCs, each with their own motivations and personalities. Most importantly, he fosters a collaborative and engaging atmosphere. It has been a delight to play in one of Grant's campaigns!
Grant is an amazing GM! I have been part of several of his campaigns for over a year and would be happy to be at his table again! He is very clear with his descriptions and role playing, and works hard to incorporate PC backstories, no matter the setting. I never felt afraid to ask if I can do something outside of RAW, and even if the answer is no, he always clearly explains why. He was very patient with me, as he was my first GM doing play by post. I cannot highly recommend him enough!
Grant is a wonderful GM. I'm in two campaigns with him right now and would recommend him highly to beginning and experienced players alike. Very communicative, clearly invested in the player's enjoyment and sense of involvement, and understands the systems with the expertise you hope to see from your game master. One of the best I've played with. Go play with Grant!
Character creation
Creating your character
We will have a Session 0 where we get to know one another, discuss the "truths" of the setting, share our character concepts, build character bonds together, and set up our band of scoundrels! We'll plan to come away from Session 0 with a number of questions to flesh out in order to more deeply flesh out our characters and bonds. I'll follow up on those questions throughout the first week to support you.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
You'll need a phone, computer, tablet, or laptop for Discord. You'll also need an Account with Discord (there is an app for phones). Maps/concept art will be shared by me in Discord. Come with a rough idea of what you want to play but be flexible. If you're a beginner, let me know and we can work on this together!
What GM Grant brings to the table
I'll host a Discord server where all character art, maps, notes, NPC info, etc. will be housed. I also have the Blades in the Dark rules and experience to run so that you don't have to purchase it (though that's always recommended to support the creators!).

How GM Grant creates a safe table
The game will take place in Rolegate and we'll use a Discord server for most out of character communication. We'll have general channels and each player will have their own, private channel within the server if they need to reach out to me for any reason. I'm also available to talk over video chat upon request. We will have a Session 0 in a Discord channel devoted to that.
