An Angry Harvest | Paleolithic Two-Shot Learn to Play Adventure
Your tribe's orchard has turned against you, poisoning any who try to harvest its fruits. You must discover why and set things right before winter.
About the adventure
This game is set 25,000 years ago, in a world like our own with a few fantasy details added. Bone Spear is a Paleolithic setting for Monster of the Week built with both fantasy and Paleoanthropology nerds in mind. Come join us for a two-shot exploration of this rich setting. This is also a Learn-to-Play adventure for Monster of the Week, so you're especially invited if you're new to the system. 25,000 years ago, the relationship between people and the rest of the environment is still very close, and people can speak with natural features, plants, and other animals. When humans disrupt the natural order, often monsters or plagues arise to get humans' attention. To win the safety of your tribe, you and the other experts of your tribe discover and correct the imbalance, restoring harmony. This season, everything seemed to be going well - at least since that one incident back in late Spring - until your tribe returned to your traditional orchard for the Fall harvest. The fruits were lush and inviting as usual, but all who have picked them have contracted a terrible illness. Your tribe's won't make it through the winter without this harvest. Find out why the orchard is angry and set things right before it's too late.

About me
I tripped and fell over GMing when I ran a "3-month" 7th Sea campaign at the end of college that is still going today, 16 years later. I've run several other campaigns and a whole ton of convention one-shots, including games at the convention I helped run for a number of years. I'm a professional GM because gaming is the most fun thing I can imagine doing for money! and because I want to share my skills with more people. Collaborative storytelling is a powerful way to enjoy life and transform ourselves, and I think everyone should do it. One of my favorite things is introducing new players to role-playing, so reach out if you're a newbie in need of mentoring! Especially because my games often run toward more intense themes, making sure everyone is enjoying themselves and feeling safe is a huge priority. At my tables we talk about triggers ahead of time and work through interpersonal conflict as often as we can. That said, people just interested in spreading hurtful stereotypes are not welcome to stay. LGBTQ+ and neurodivergent GM welcoming all your identities, especially the marginalized ones. Outside of gaming, I'm a Pagan spiritual leader, singer, parent of 4, and avid gardener. What amazing stories will we tell together?

so im leaving this reveiw beacuse for the first time I realise that a game master has allowed me to understand and play social games, for the most part I don't understand social implications in real life and its super good and satisfying to be able to play a game and understand them as they are really well, and clearly explained. it makes the game wonderfully interesting for people of all brain types
Piper has an amazing personality that just invites others to feel comfortable and brings out laughter and great RP moments. Mix that with a good amount of experience with what makes for a good game, and a stellar focus on the characters and how they build the story and you have a recipe for a great time. I had so much fun playing at Pipers table, and would recommend everyone to join one of their games
Just played my first game of Alice is Missing with Piper and they were absolutely phenomenal! Super knowledgeable on the game, kept everything running smooth and was super patient as I was learning! They were also fantastic at creating a safe and inclusive space that made it incredibly easy to really get into character and enjoy the story! Super chill person with a very obvious and infectious love for TTRPGs. Highly, highly recommend!!
Character creation
Creating your character
For those joining more than 3 days in advance, we will create characters together before the first session via our private Discord channel. Those joining after that point will have their choice of the remaining Playbooks, with premade characters available for last-minute players (joining within 3 hours of Session 1). No third-party Playbooks are allowed, because all the standard Playbooks are heavily modified for this ancient setting.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
Once you join this game, your next step will be to join my Discord server, Oaksong Games. Everything else will run through there, including pre-game camaraderie, talking about fun tropes and building characters, and any VTT resources needed. Plan to have your webcam and mic on by default, as it helps the flow of the game to be able to see each other and enjoy one another's comments and laughter.
What Connor brings to the table
I love Theater of the Mind with a few supplemental pieces, like music and character portraits. For this game that's set in our distant past, you'll benefit from my anthropology nerdiness as well as my more universal skills around building compelling characters and settings to interact with. I also provide my conflict resolution skills, teaching background, and many years of professional leadership facilitating groups. I help new and shy players be heard in the group and encourage more confident players to make space for everyone. When we do get into disagreements or step on one another's toes, I will help guide us to a graceful resolution so that everyone feels safe and heard before diving back into our story.
Homebrew rules
We will follow the "Bone Spear" published setting for Monster of the Week with no homebrew rules.

How Connor creates a safe table
At Session 1, before we play, in addition to learning the rules, we'll look at what topics to avoid (Lines and Veils). We will have breaks and feedback integrated into every session as well, so that there is always time to reflect on your experience and bring up issues or concerns you're having. I thrive on your honest feedback! Below you'll find a list of tricky topics I expect to come up in this game. If any of these topics is complicated territory for you, you're welcome to reach out and discuss whether and how we can limit it coming up in the two-shot so that you can more safely join the game.
