About me
Hey! I’m Mike — a laid-back UK-based DM (GMT) who loves wild ideas, emotional moments, and just the right amount of chaos. Like a lot of folks, I got into D&D during the pandemic by binging actual play shows — and I’ve been hooked ever since. Now I run games where storytelling leads the way, the dice add drama, and the players shape everything that happens next. I run story-first one-shots and mini-campaigns packed with big character moments, meaningful choices, and plenty of space for nonsense (the good kind). My style is all about collaboration — you bring the weird ideas, I’ll try and help make them epic. My tables are beginner-friendly, low-pressure, and perfect for players who care more about having fun than memorizing rules. Whether you’re into goofy antics, heartfelt arcs, or both, I’ve got you covered. New to D&D? Casual player who just wants a good time? You’re welcome at my table. Bring your backstory, your boldest ideas, and let’s build something unforgettable together.

Creating your character
🛠️ Character Creation Timing We’ll create characters before the first session to jump straight into the adventure. If you need help, I’m happy to guide you through it step-by-step. 🧙♂️ Where We Build Characters Characters will be created using D&D Beyond. I’ll provide content sharing so you have access to expanded races, classes, and spells. 🎚️ Starting Level Characters will start at Level 1 — ready to grow from small-town heroes to legends! 🎲 Ability Scores We’ll roll for stats together (4d6, drop the lowest die). If you roll truly bad scores, you’ll have the option to use Standard Array instead to keep things fair and fun. 📚 Allowed Sources All official Dungeons & Dragons (Wizards of the Coast) content is allowed. Homebrew and third-party options are considered on a case-by-case basis — just ask first! 🎭 Character Tone Light-hearted, heroic characters encouraged! A bit of mystery or edge is welcome, but overly grim, chaotic evil, or disruptive characters aren’t a good fit for the group vibe. 📝 Premade Characters Available If you want to start quickly, I have premade characters ready for you! 🎯 Session Zero Overview We'll do a short Session Zero before starting the campaign to finalize characters, answer questions, and set group expectations.
What to expect
Preparing for the session
🎤 Microphone Required A working microphone is needed for clear communication during sessions. A webcam is optional — you're welcome to have it on or off! 🧙♂️ D&D Beyond Account You’ll need a free D&D Beyond account to create and manage your character sheet. I’ll send an invite link to my campaign to unlock all shared content for you. 🗺️ D&D Beyond Maps Access We’ll use D&D Beyond Maps for virtual tabletop play — no extra downloads or accounts required beyond D&D Beyond itself. 🧾 Character Creation Characters should be created before the first full session. I’ll guide you through the character creation process if you need help. Premade characters are available if you want to jump in quickly. 📚 Rules Knowledge No prior rules knowledge needed! I’ll explain everything as we go and help you learn at your own pace. 💻 Stable Internet Connection A stable internet connection is important to keep the session smooth. 🎲 Positive, Collaborative Attitude This is a laid-back, beginner-friendly game. Bring your curiosity, creativity, and a spirit of teamwork!
What Mike brings to the table
🗺 Virtual Tabletop (VTT) + Custom Maps: We’ll use a Virtual Tabletop (VTT) to run the game — simple, clear, and easy to use. You'll explore detailed maps for dungeons, towns, and wilderness areas without needing any complicated tech setup. 📖 D&D Beyond Integration: We’ll use D&D Beyond for character sheets and dice rolls, with content sharing unlocked — meaning you'll have access to expanded races, classes, and more at no extra cost. 🎵 Ambient Music and Sound Effects: Light ambient music and sound effects will help set the mood during adventures — just enough to create atmosphere without overwhelming the game. 💬 Casual NPC Roleplay: I’ll bring NPCs to life with distinct personalities, but I keep voices casual and simple — no theatrical performances here, just enough flavor to keep things fun and clear. ⚔️ Balanced Playstyle (Combat, Exploration, Roleplay): Our sessions will feature a mix of tactical combat, open-world exploration, and roleplay opportunities. I adapt the balance based on what the group enjoys most. 🎲 Rule of Cool Friendly: While we’ll follow the D&D rules as our framework, creative ideas and cinematic moments are always welcome. If it’s awesome and fits the story, I’ll do my best to make it happen. 🧙 Beginner-Friendly and Supportive: No experience needed! I’ll guide you through character creation, rules, and story decisions. Questions are always welcome, and the focus is on learning and having fun together. 🤝 Collaborative Storytelling: Your characters, choices, and backstories will influence the world around you. I encourage creativity and teamwork to create a memorable story we build together.

How Mike creates a safe table
🛡️ Safety, Comfort, and Communication Are My Top Priorities Before the game even begins, I’ll send everyone a link to the Monte Cook RPG Consent Checklist. 🎭 Session 0 will cover: A walkthrough of character creation and party building Setting tone expectations (whimsical fairy tale with some darker emotional notes) Walking through the safety tools we’ll use Establishing any boundaries or topics players want to avoid Quick rules overview for anyone new to D&D ❌⭕ In-Game Safety Tools: We will use the X, N, and O system during gameplay: X (Stop) — "I'm not okay, stop or skip this content." N (Neutral) — "I'm feeling uncomfortable, let's move on." O (Okay) — "I'm good, keep going!" These can be used in voice chat, private Discord messages, or simply typed in the chat — whatever feels easiest for you. 💬 Aftercare: After each session, there will be 5–10 minutes for "aftercare," where we can decompress, check in, share highlights, or flag anything that felt uncomfortable.
