About the adventure

Welcome to a world that doesn’t wait for heroes. Kingdoms rise and fall, dark powers move in silence, and the average citizen survives by keeping their head down. But you? You're not average. Whether you're driven by vengeance, loyalty, ambition, or something darker, you've stepped into the kind of story that changes things. This homebrew, open-world D&D 5e campaign is built for serious roleplayers who want more than just monster-of-the-week quests. The tone is grounded and adult—expect political intrigue, morally grey dilemmas, ancient powers clawing their way back into relevance, and the kind of decisions that keep your character up at night. Actions have weight. NPCs remember. Your backstory won’t collect dust—it will collide with the present. The players shape the game. You decide what direction the story takes, what factions rise, what lands fall into ruin, and what legends are written. I give you the world, fully loaded with opportunity, threat, mystery, and momentum—but I won’t handhold you. If you want to be a hero, you’ll have to earn it.

About me

Hey there, I'm Mike—though some folks online know me as LordGlarp. I'm a Navy veteran, storyteller, and lifelong GM with a passion for deep character-driven narratives and open-world exploration. If you're looking for a game where your choices matter, your backstory actually shows up in the world, and the story is shaped by you, you're in the right place. I run DnD 5e campaigns that are heavily roleplay-focused, with a living, breathing world that reacts to player decisions. The tone of my games is set by the players—light-hearted moments and table banter are always welcome, but we won’t shy away from heavy themes or serious arcs when they arise. I specialize in helping players create meaningful, immersive characters and storylines that evolve naturally over time. New to D&D but serious about the roleplay? No problem. I care more about your character’s soul than your stat block. If you’re here to tell a story, I’ll handle the rest. What I don’t do: I don’t run fetish fuel. If your idea of immersion is RPing out your character’s sex life in graphic detail, we’re not a fit. I’m a fade-to-black kind of GM—romance is fine, but this isn’t your erotic novel sandbox. If that sounds like your style, let’s build something unforgettable.

Character creation

Creating your character

We’ll handle character creation before the first session, not during it. I’ll guide you through the process on D&D Beyond, where you’ll have full access to every official sourcebook, subclass, spell, and race via my shared content. You’ll also get access to the campaign-specific Google Drive, which may include setting info, regional details, and any relevant lore for your backstory. Characters typically start at Level 3, unless otherwise stated in the campaign listing. This gives you room to define your concept without being stuck as a glass cannon. Stats will be point buy or standard array—no rolling, to ensure balance across the board. Homebrew content (classes, races, feats, etc.) will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. I’m open to it if it’s thematically grounded and fits the tone of the world—especially if it adds to your character’s story in a meaningful way. Just don’t expect to sneak in something broken. I’m not here to run power fantasy spreadsheets—I’m here to run a story. I expect players to come in with characters who have a reason to be in the party, a willingness to engage with the world, and a personal arc we can build into the larger narrative. If you’re not sure where to start, I’m happy to workshop character ideas with you 1-on-1 before we kick things off.

What to expect

Preparing for the session

To join my game, here’s what you’ll need: A clear mic and a working webcam – Both are required. This is a roleplay-heavy table, and being able to see and hear each other’s expressions takes the experience to the next level. If you're not comfortable on camera, this might not be the right fit. A D&D Beyond Account – You’ll get full access to my shared content and campaign tools. A Discord Account – All voice and video chat will run through a private server, along with session scheduling, downtime RP, and campaign updates. Basic familiarity with D&D 5e – You don’t need to be a rules lawyer, but you should understand how a turn works, what your character can do, and how to engage with the system. Character created during Session 0 – We’ll workshop it together if needed, but session 1 time won’t be used for building characters.

What LordGlarp brings to the table

What Will You Bring? I run high-quality, immersive campaigns with a heavy focus on story, character, and world reactivity. I use D&D Beyond for character management and maps, and all of my players get access to every resource available—books, subclasses, spells, and more. You'll also get a shared Google Drive packed with custom handouts, maps, lore documents, session recaps, and anything else we build together as the story unfolds. Combat is run with a mix of theater of the mind and battle maps, depending on the complexity of the encounter. When maps are used, they’re never generic filler—I prep custom tokens, detailed environments, and layered tactical options so fights feel dynamic and cinematic. You won’t be staring at blank grids and boxes. Expect cinematic narration, distinct character voices, ambient music, and strong emotional beats. I lean hard into immersion, especially during major story moments. When combat is just a beat in the rhythm of the story, it stays snappy. When the stakes are high? I want your heart pounding. I dedicate 3–4 hours of prep between sessions, with personalized arcs, reactive NPCs, and storylines that evolve based on your choices. Homebrew is welcome—as long as it's narratively grounded and thematically fitting, I'm happy to shape the world around it. Games are designed for 5–6 serious roleplayers who want to show up, stay engaged, and help create a world worth caring about.

Homebrew rules

🔀 Alignment Ignored in favor of roleplay. No character is labeled Good, Evil, etc.—NPCs and players judge based on actions. 🤝 Helping To use the Help action, you must be proficient in the skill. 🎲 Super Advantage/Disadvantage Each source adds a d20. For Advantage, discard lowest; for Disadvantage, discard highest. Lucky adds a d20 and allows any one to be discarded. Result should leave one final die. 🛌 Resting Short Rest: 10 mins. Long Rest: Two 3-hour segments in 9 hrs. Heal via Hit Dice only. Does not remove exhaustion. Day’s Rest: 24 hrs with safety = full heal, Long Rest effects, remove 1 exhaustion. 🪄 Attunement Takes 1 round to start/end. Ends on 3 failed death saves. Cannot re-attune for 10 minutes. Some items attune instantly at DM’s discretion. ⭐ Inspiration & Luck Points Inspiration stacks up to proficiency bonus. Gaining more = 1 Luck Point. Luck Points increase rolls (no nat 20s). 📏 Movement Measured in 5-ft. increments. Standing up costs 15 ft. and provokes attacks of opportunity. ⚔️ Combat Actions Declare your action within 20 seconds or lose your turn (Dodge/defensive stance instead). 🗣️ Free Combat Skill Check Each turn allows 1 free skill check. Success may cost an action/bonus action to follow through; failure costs nothing. 🧪 Potion Sickness First potion: no issue. Each additional potion: DC 5 CON save (increasing +5 each). Fail = vomit potion. Resets after 3 hours. 🎯 Called Shots Declare before rolling. Roll at Disadvantage. On hit, DM may apply effects based on hit location and total damage. Rarely insta-kill. 💥 Critical Hits All extra dice from non-spell critical hits are maximized. 🩸 Hit Point Secrecy Do not speak numerical HP during combat. Describe your condition narratively. 💀 Death Saves Made at start of your turn. Failures reset only after Long Rest. Remove 1 on Short Rest Remove 1 on healing ≥ ½ HP Remove 2 on healing ≥ full HP Taking damage at 0 HP = 1 fail by default 2 if damage ≥ half HP 3 if damage ≥ max HP Heroic Recovery: Pass all 3 saves = stabilize with 1 + CON mod HP. ⚔️ PvP vs. CvC PvP is not allowed. Character vs Character (CvC) must be mutual, story-driven, and respectful. CvC should escalate over time with clear intent and a satisfying arc—not be an excuse for personal conflict or disruption. ✅ Good Metagaming Metagaming to preserve fun is welcome. Ruining another player’s session in-character isn’t good roleplay—it’s selfish. Play with each other, not against.

Safety

How LordGlarp creates a safe table

My table is built on trust, immersion, and mutual respect. To support that, I use a full suite of safety tools that help everyone feel comfortable while still allowing us to explore serious and sometimes dark themes. Here’s how I implement them: Session 0 – Every campaign begins with a Session 0 to align expectations, go over house rules, establish tone, discuss character concepts, and clearly define boundaries. We’ll cover what themes are on the table and which ones are absolutely not. Lines and Veils – During Session 0, we’ll use Lines (content that will not appear in the game at all) and Veils (content that may exist in the world but will be off-screen or implied only). These help us know where the line is drawn for everyone involved. X, N, and O Cards – I fully support the use of digital X/N/O messages on Discord: X means stop immediately—whether it’s a scene, a joke, or a tone shift, no questions asked. N means you’re nearing an edge, and we should steer away from a topic before it becomes uncomfortable. O means all good—used to give reassurance, especially during intense moments. Open Door Policy – At any point, for any reason, you are free to leave the session or step away. No guilt, no explanation needed. Life happens, and your mental well-being matters more than any plot point. Breaks – We’ll take regular breaks during long sessions, and I always encourage players to speak up if they need a moment outside of the scheduled ones. These tools aren’t about walking on eggshells—they’re about making sure everyone has a safe space to tell powerful stories, confront dark ideas if they want to, and stay immersed without crossing personal boundaries. Heavy themes may show up in my games, but no one’s comfort is ever the price of the narrative.
