About the adventure
This adventure will work best with 3-5 characters, starting at level 3. I am running a mostly 5e24 rules set with 5e14 builds accepted. D&D Beyond lets you build both -- be aware which you are doing :) The homebrewed coastal town of Miriharn is the setting for our intrepid heroes(?) for the next several days. Each of them had reasons to want a little side job for some quick coin and each found themselves in the Hills' Rest Inn, near the river on the inland side of town. They had rooms for the night, they were waiting on food and looking forward to rest... The rest of the night was complicated. But that was yestereve. Now they have free lodging for the next sennight and the question at hand is which unanswered mystery from that night should be next? And is there anything to be gained from it?

About me
Playing since 5th grade, my AD&D DMG has hand-written name element lists from the RotK appendices pencilled in front and back covers... Owned but never found player groups for Traveller and Shadowrun. Logged many hours with Champions, Star Trek, and MERP... Then away from the hobby from 1995 to 2019(!!?) So now am back and versed in 2014 5e, learning 2024. Have Daggerheart, Candela, & Avatar Legends on the shelf, just in case. I world build when I'm bored.

Creating your character
Try to build your character on D&D Beyond using Point Buy or Standard Array 24 hours before start time. It will help the pre-session discussion on Discord! Join my Doty & Dragons Discord Server for text-based Session 0 and voice chat during session. We will get you onboarded with Safety and House Rules, weave your background into the setting, etc... The initial setting is tropical, about 4 degrees north of the equator and on the water and we aren't on a published setting world, so don't be super invested in your arctic survivalist Hobgoblin ranger from Icewind Dale. ;) Build Limits: based on the lore of this world, the starting locale would not see the full range of D&D species/races available. However, continuing in the campaign might open up some other playable species, if you need to build a replacement character :) Additionally, no human sorcerers; no artificers to start... BUT plot reasons might mean multiclassing into those options becomes possible.
THIS CAMPAIGN STARTS the WEEK of JUN 22 Current Party Makeup: We currently have a half-elven lore bard, a human paladin and a goblin hexblade. A goliath monk and human rogue were with the group when it first came together and may drop in from time to time. A goliath barbarian came back to the Inn with the group as the last session came to an end. We are (currently) sitting with 4 at the table. The setting has a limited number of playable species to start. As we continue in the campaign setting, other species may come available, but because of the global population distribution and the starting town, here's what players can choose from: Humans, Half Elves, Elves, Dwarves, Gnomes, Halflings, Goliath, Goblins, Hobgoblins, Bugbears, Kobolds, Dragonborn and custom lineages based on these species. Class restrictions: CURRENTLY* no artificers and no human sorcerers. These restrictions lift as the campaign continues. *plot events can unlock these, but haven't yet!
What to expect
Preparing for the session
We will play with Above VTT (requires Chrome, sorry) on D&D Beyond with Discord for voice and text chat. So have a decent mic in a relatively quiet room (no family watching TV 10' away, please). If you need help getting the various elements working properly, DM me. Characters (currently starting level 3) should be on D&D Beyond 24 or more hours before the session starts. If you played "A Good Meal and a Quiet Night", you already have a character in D&DB. If you didn't, don't sweat it—it was an toe-dipping session 1 that I offered in early June and you'll be fine jumping in without it! MOST Comms after you're in will be over on Discord with once a week 'pregame' message to the player pool here!
What Doty brings to the table
I am bringing most WotC and a few 3rd party published materials on DDB (content sharing on). I am building my stock of digital assets (I have a LOT of 3d printed terrain and many minis and a gaming table and none of that matters now). Each week should see more and more visual stuff coming in, but some sessions will have theater of the mind portions! My 'other' life includes theater and medieval re-creation, so expect voices, details, tactical combat... I don't have a full library of sound, yet, but will try to incorporate music as best as I can :) I am only commiting to 9 sessions because of my weekday work obligations starting in August when school spins back up. But I will make sure that the weekly players for 9 weeks of my summer have a satisfactory 'end point' - players who are in the Sunday game, might be able to continue indefinitely, if the interest is there.
Homebrew rules
I've borrowed some action economy rules from CR and BG3 - bonus actions for drinking potions and for shoving. More will be made clear as we are getting underway. I also have a modified Injured condition that can impact being exhausted as a result of near death experiences, and being exhausted makes recovering HP, spell slots, and other assets more difficult during long rests if you are ALSO clearing exhaustion. It's all specified in the Discord!
